Haunted by the curse of comparison? You’re not alone. Studies show that our instinct to compare is inbuilt, and it isn’t always a negative thing - comparison is what pushes people to achieve new feats, after all. So why is it that we find it so tricky to tackle? A Harvard study showed that people would rather earn $50k with their colleagues earning $25k, than earn $100k but knowing their colleagues were on $250k. Yep - those surveyed would rather earn half the amount overall, as long as it’s more than their peers. Don’t fear, though: comparison is something we can keep in check. 7 months out vs 7 months in 👶🏽 This week is maternal mental health week & it just so happens that baby J turns 7 months today - aka the same length of time I was pregnant 🤯 There’s plenty of content discussing maternal mental health when you get home with your baby. Yet ironically, that’s been the smoothest part of my motherhood mental health journey so far. As I’ve said before, I’m not going to write out my blow by blow experience for public consumption right now (I have a therapist for that). But mentally, the last weeks of my pregnancy pushed me further than I knew I could possibly handle. And all that was before neonatal. You know those memes that are relatable only to millennials? There are tonnes of little things that only preemie parents will understand. You become part of a club no one really knows exists until you’re in it. And it’s a club you’d never choose to be part of, yet it’s the most incredible and awe inspiring club to be in at the same time 🤍 I have so much to say but for now, here are a couple of invaluable resources that helped me in case you or someone you know finds yourself with a preemie or in neonatal care 🍼 @blisscharity @miraclemoonuk @dearnicumama
