A Bobby Burns for Burns Night! The keys to this cocktail are in the Scotch selection and the Benedictine amount. If you want more of a savory punch then use something peated. If you want more of a sweet profile grab an unpeated single malt. Bruichladdich has you covered on both. Once you have that sorted out, you really just need to know how herbaceous you like your cocktails. You could do up to 1 oz of Benedictine without destroying the balance. I also know folks who like to use the same amount as you would bitters: just a few dashes. 2 oz Scotch (I used @bruichladdich Classic Laddie) 1 oz Sweet Red Vermouth .5 oz Benedictine 2-3 Dashes Bitters Lemon Peel You may have noticed this video looked quite a bit different than my usual videos. I made the above video while temporarily homeless due to a massive ice and snow storm that removed power from my cabin for 12 days. During this time I stayed with friends and filmed this at my buddy Marshall's house. I didn't have my cocktail gear. But it still turned out great and tomorrow I'll be dedicating my Burns Night Toast to him, and all my friends. Cheers! ___________ Must be 21+ to enjoy ___________ . . . . . #cocktail #cocktails #imbibe #imbibegram #drinkstagram #drink #booze #alcohol #garnish #glassware #CocktailLife #bruichladdich #burnsnight #scotch #classic #cocktailsofinstagram #cocktailtime #cocktailhour #cocktailsathome #cocktailporn #cocktailoftheday #cocktailrecipes #cocktailrecipe #cocktailgram #bobbyburns #cocktailculture #drink #drinking #benedictine #alcohol

Comparing this to the dusty Glenmorangie 10 and the current Glenmorangie Original 10… I’d take this every single time. This is the best, purely, ex-Bourbon Glenmorangie I’ve had and I include the Astar in that statement. This is Glenmorangie. This is elegance, this is beauty, this is Highland fruity deliciousness and I wish I could go back to 2003 and buy a couple of bottles. The Glenmorangie Traditional 100 is a whisky worth hunting down at least of taste of if you’re a fan. Big thanks to Hodas for bringing this to a tasting and the sample. Have you seen these popping up at your local spots? Mr. @pablo_moix has been making his waves with his @rarecharacterwhiskey single barrel selections. I've seen several of them show up at some of my favorite bottle shops so I decided to pick up a bourbon and a rye and see what all the fuss is about. -------------------------------------- Rare Character Bourbon (@littlebearbottleshop) Distilled in Indiana (MGP), but aged in Tennessee (Dickel?)... we're off to a weird start. Not weird bad, or weird good, just weird. And you know me, I never shy away from weird. Aroma is oaky, nutty and spicy (baking) with some dried dark fruit and a bit of dark candy sweetness (caramel/toffee) and a light herbal touch. Palate carries a similar profile, but the oak is a tad woody and some notes of coco and citrus pop in. Finish is dry and oaky with some cocoa and leather. Yeah... this is weird, but good. I'd love to get just a bit more oak out of it, this is so close to being excellent, but this is just my first impression. The official review will come after I've come back to it at least 3 times. We'll see how it evolves as it opens, but it's starting in a great place. I'd go ahead and say I recommend grabbing one if you're in Lake Arrowhead, CA. -------------------------------------- Rare Character Rye (@klwines) This is supposedly George Dickel rye. But I gotta say, that seems a bit odd to me. It's strange they'd be letting out 5+ yo single barrels of their rye before they even relaunched their rye as using their own stuff; the ones on the shelves are still MGP. When I first saw it on the shelf I thought it was TDL 🤷‍♂Anywho... Aroma is pleasant. It's oaky and grainy with a light butterscotch and vanilla sweetness and a bit of spice. Far less than the supposed 95/ mash bill this carries and a lot less spice compared to their MGP rye (and only a hint of dill). Palate is a tad woody and not as oaky with some chocolate covered cherries, vanilla, toffee and baking spice with a biscuity note. The finish is biscuity and toffee sweet on a medium fade. It's decent, I'll be sipping and mixing with it for sure. Though, if it really is GD rye I have to say I'm a tad disappointe

Time for a Blood & Sand I usually make this using blood oranges, but there haven't been any available for a while so tonight we're making due with regular old oj. 1.5 oz Scotch .5 oz Red Vermouth .5 oz Cherry Heering .75 oz Orange Juice The original recipe calls for 3/4 oz of each of the ingredients which makes a 3 oz cocktail. Over the years I've played with and adjusted the ratios with most nights keeping the oj at .5 oz to keep it at 3 oz. But every now and then I add a bit more oj, tonight is one of those nights. What's your favorite recipe? Cheers! ___________ . . . . . #cocktail #cocktails #imbibe #imbibegram #drinkstagram #drink #booze #alcohol #garnish #glassware #CocktailLife #vodkasucks #orangejuice #scotch #classic #cocktailsofinstagram #cocktailtime #cocktailhour #cocktailsathome #cocktailporn #cocktailoftheday #cocktailrecipes #cocktailrecipe #cocktailgram #BloodAndSand #cocktailculture #drink #drinking #Cherry #alcohol

This is a true 80 proof beauty, wow, and it’s remarkable how different this is to so many current 80 proofers (even 86) at the same age or a couple of years older. There is a bit of depth and a bit of magic in some of these old bottles that’s unique and missing from core releases today. I’m not saying modern whisky is trash, that’s obviously not the case, but there’s something about some of these older bottles that is a little special. It shows you why they became so popular and why people gravitated to them and how they gained their popularity. Tasting it next to the Glenmorangie Original, there’s a noticeable difference. This older bottle of Glenmorangie 10 Years Old is a bit more complex, buttery/waxy and much more of a fruit bomb. It carries a profile that goes well beyond its 80 proof and 10 years of age. If you ever see one hanging out on a dusty shelf somewhere snag it. It’s pretty dang good and shows a marked difference in profile over the current Original. If you’ve been looking for the most average, MOTR, yet approachable and sippable whisky on the market, this is it. It’s not complex, it’s not deep, but it doesn’t have anything inherently wrong with it either. I can, and have, been happily sipping on it. It’s simple yet pleasant. In fact, it was the whisky I sipped on while writing all the intros to the Glenmo reviews I’ve been posting and will continue posting in the coming weeks. But sipping isn’t its true nature. The X by Glenmorangie was designed for mixing and if I were grading it on that sole attribute it would get a 4/5… but I’m not. It’s a good, average, workhorse whisky that’s innoffesive and sippable – exactly as it was designed to be. Dark, sweet and luxurious, this is a true delight for the senses. Quinta Ruban is hands-down my favorite of the Glenmorangie core line up and solidifying the 4 year finishing has done nothing but deepen the profile and bring more nuance to the whisky. Sitting with the Quinta Ruban 12 and 14 side-by-side shows subtle, but significant differences. The aroma on the 12 is a bit lighter and a bit sharper compared to the 14. The palate is slightly less fruity and less earthy and again comes through a bit sharper than the 14. Though the finish and the body of the two are where the 12 and 14 diverge the most with the 14 having a longer, more complex finish, fuller body and a more velvety feel. The 12 was a whisky, I’ve been using it for almost a decade in tastings to introduce people to Glenmorangie and it’s converted more than a few people into new fans. But most importantly it’s a GREAT example of port done well. Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Years is the port-finished Scotch all others are judged by. I truly do enjoy this whisky. Every time we have a Glenmo tasting with the SCWC or I attend an LVMH press event I find myself gravitating towards the Quinta. It doesn’t matter what limited editions are out, what’s new, what’s old, etc. I just keep coming back to this little ruby gem. Are there Glenmos I enjoy more than the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 Years? Sure. But they tend to be in the not-quite-affordable range and so I’ll spoil my palate with them when I can, and so does everyone else at the events, but as soon as they run dry I can be found happily sipping the Quinta. And that ain’t a bad place to be. A buttery, fruity and gorgeous golden whisky layered with decadent pastry notes, honey for days, soft dried orchard with an underlying tone of sultanas and a touch of tropical fruit. It’s delicious, I would happily drink it any day. Honestly, the only thing that would make this whisky more attractive would be if the aroma kept pace with the palate. If it had the same grip the palate carries, the Glenmorangie Nectar D’Or might give the Quinta Ruban a run as my favorite of the core. As-is though, it’s tasty. Darn tasty. Darkly sweet and fruity with touches of spice and nuts. Lasanta is a fun and lovely whisky. It’s not the deepest, heaviest or most complex sherry finished whisky I’ve had, but it is a good contender and shows what can be accomplished with 2 years, vs the more standard 3-6 months, finishing. Good whisky takes time. There is no way around it. Small barrels, pressure, heat, sonic waves, blah, blah, blah. None of it ever produces a whisky that holds a candle to something that’s been given the proper care and time… like the Glenmorangie Lasanta 12 Years. This flagship offering from Glenmorangie shows just how good a baseline offering can be when you take your time to craft a quality product. It’s buttery, fruity, malty and has a depth of flavor that’s hard to beat at its age (and its price). The Glenmorangie The Original 10 Years a great example of something fun, interesting and accessible. It’s a whisky that’s easy to get into and easy to share. It’s the whisky you take to dinner parties, after parties and any other occasion. It’s a “daily drinker” that’s never boring and always welcome in my glass. I’ve had good-decent young MGP rye and I’ve had mediocre-bad young MGP rye. The distillate is the same, the new charred oak barrels are the same, what changes is where the barrels are stored. I’m guessing these were lower-rick barrels that didn’t get a ton of oak extraction so it’s a bit fruity. What’s in this isn’t bad, but it’s the same MGP profile you can get in a hundred other NDP bottles, and this is the risk of being a straight-up, non-blending, whiskey NDP. You’re getting the same available whiskey as everyone else and you have to hope your branding pulls you through. The one, kinda unique, thing I can say about this Elvis Rye Whiskey is that as I’ve been sniffing and sipping it I keep coming back to this idea of apple pie. I’m not getting “apple pie” per-say, but the combination of notes keeps summoning the idea of it. It’s better than I thought it would be, but still average on the whole. There isn’t a whole lot going on, but what is there is easy, light and approachable. This isn’t a big bold whiskey, but a light “smooth” easy whisky that rides right down the middle. It’s as MOTR as it gets. Reading the label I’m surprised it’s about 2.5 years old, I would have expected something this young to be a bit woodier, not oaky, and a bit more spirity. So good on the TDL folks and their maturation. Though, as I mentioned above, the Elvis Tennessee Whiskey is definitely lacking depth. It’s light, it’s bright, it’s fresh, but also very topical and I keep hoping and waiting for more, but it never arrives. Yup, I like it. I could sit and sip this sherried Laphroaig all night long… and I have. I bought this bottle to a small, outdoor, group hangout and even though I tasted other stuff on the table I ended up sipping on this for most of the evening, and so did everyone else. It’s the peat n’ sweet combo whisky folks seem to love. I do wish this was done at natural color. I love seeing the unadulterated color and mentally cataloging it compared to the flavor and aroma. Regardless, this Laphroaig 10 Year Sherry Oak Finish is good and I’m going to enjoy what little is left in this bottle. LINKWOOD MINI VERTICAL!!! I've been liking Linkwood more and more lately. The texture is creamy and a bit waxy like Clynelish. The flavor and aroma are fruity and warm like Clynelish... It's basically a high-quality Clynelish knockoff at 1/2 the price. A Gucci spelled with one C. AM ex-Bourbon Linkwood 19 (53.8%) - sweet creamy and fruity,  this is a delicious Linkwood. Loads of dry orchard fruit and subtle pastry sweetness. Signatory ex-Wine Linkwood 11 (59.2%) - Sweet dark fruit with a touch of bubblegum and a nice charry smoke note and. SCN ex-Port Linkwood 12 (54.4%) - Creamy dark sweets, plums and raisins with a bit of pepper and leather... damn. Chapter 7 ex-Port Linkwood 12 (50.3%) - Dry ashy smoky dried fruit, Jerry, leather and some caramel. Super weird one. I'm digging all of these, but that scn one is a firecracker. It stands out in richness and depth with a nice dark sweetness carrying from aroma to finish. If you've had any of these what did you think? ---‐-----‐------------------------------------- . . . . . #Linkwood #Instadram #Scotch #Scotland #SingleMalt #ScotchWhisky #ScotchGram #Whisky #Instawhisky #WhiskeyTasting #WhiskeyLover #WhiskyTasting #WhiskyLife #WhiskyLove #Whiskygram #Whiskey #InstaWhiskey #WhiskeyLover #Whiskeygram #hooch #Instadrink #InstaDrinking  #Dram #instadram #WhiskeyPorn #WhiskyPorn #WhiskyWriter #WhiskeyFam #WhiskyFabric #ScotchyScotchScotch
