Our newest water side recipe is inspired by the famous Texas ranch water but with a Florida twist. We’re calling it a Florida Spring Water. Here’s what you’ll need for this tropical refresher: 2 oz of your favorite tequila 3 key limes juiced 1 oz of guava nectar Sprig of Fresh mint Bottle of Topo Chico Shake up the tequila and juices with ice. Prep a rocks glass with crushed ice and fill about halfway with mineral water. Top tequila juice blend. Garnish with a slap of mint and key lime quarter. Enjoy!

Christmas is over and that means lots of folks traveling back to their home states. If you flew by way of the Tampa airport you may have met the resident Flamingo Phoebe! The 22-foot-high hyperreal sculpture of a flamingo in its main terminal was named after a popular entry in its Name the Flamingo contest. The winner was Bryan M., a retired educator who lives in Daytona Beach Shores and loves Florida. He said that Phoebe is a play on Phoenicopterus, the flamingo’s scientific name, and also means brilliantly inquisitive. How cool is that? 😎 These tropical birds have a long history with the sunshine state. Often sought after for their beautiful feathers, Flamingos were wiped out by hunting in the late 1800s, and most of those found in Florida today are captive. But some wild flamingos have returned to Florida in recent years, thanks to conservation efforts and habitat restoration. These amazing birds are also full of interesting characteristics. They can stand on one leg for hours to conserve body heat and filter water from algae and plankton. They have a unique tongue that can be up to 10 inches long and has tiny barbs that trap food particles. They also have a special gland near their tail that produces salt from seawater to balance their diet. Flamingos are social animals that live in large flocks and communicate with each other through vocalizations and body language. So there you have it, some fun facts about Phoebe the flamingo at Tampa International Airport and the history of flamingos in Florida.
