Menopause put me into a state of fear of aging. I went through it in my 40’s. It wasn’t until I hit 50 that I decided to reframe what growing older means to me! Finding a tribe of badass women over 40 who are all on the same path as myself has been my biggest inspiration. Together we are paving a path for the younger generation to step into the aging process equipped with the power of aging unapologetically! How do you do this? Well for me it started with a saying my Aunt Sue would always tell me: Age is just a number, if you didn’t know how old you were how old would you be? Well I would be 30ish! Mark Twain wrote “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” I like that. But get real. In a culture preoccupied with youth & beauty, why has there been a 114 percent increase in the number of cosmetic surgeries performed in the last 12 years? How do us women escape the judgment conferred on them every time they open a magazine, get online, or watch TV? It can really cause a lot of anxiety because honestly, I still don’t see myself as old.
