fun news - last week I signed up for my first race! a 5k in May!! to be honest - I think I was always scared to get into running over the last couple years bc I knew I couldnโ€™t do long distances or run a 6 min mile. however, I wasnโ€™t trying. I avoided running/jogging completely. once I had my surgery and realized how amazing and capable my body was pre-accident, I vowed to myself I would take up running once my body was recovered again. I wanted the challenge.. and I wanted to take full advantage of how incredible my body is, because sometimes we really take movement for granted. and honestly, I hate that it took an injury and a surgery that made me immobile to realize that. so over the last couple months, after I was cleared by my PT, I started running. I may not have run over 3 miles yet or be under a 10 min pace, but who cares. Iโ€™m trying and Iโ€™ll keep trying. Who knows where Iโ€™ll be a year from now or 5 years from now. Small progress is still progress. and something I often have to remind myself when I see other ppl in their running eras is this - no matter your pace, you are a runner. no matter how far youโ€™ve ran, you are a runner. if youโ€™re running, youโ€™re a runner. #runningmotivation #runningcommunity #running #beginnerrunner

in our running girl era ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธโฃ โฃ to prevent future issues as I start running more and training more, I decided to get fitted/get a consultation done at my local running shoe store. after almost an hour of getting my scan done, going back and forth between different shoes, and testing them on the treadmill, I decided to go with the @saucony ride 17!โฃ โฃ happy running !!! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ โฃ #runningcommunity #saucony #runningshoes #guforit

today marks one year post ACL reconstruction/meniscus repair !!!! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜คโฃโฃ โฃโฃ looking back at it, this year went by SO fast. however, I vividly remember certain phases of my recovery where I felt like I wasnโ€™t making any progress and the thought of doing โ€œnormalโ€ things felt so far awayโ€ฆ but here I am!! I MADE IT. no one has doubted me more than I have doubted myself so I want to take a moment to acknowledge all my accomplishments this past year: โฃโฃ โฃโฃ ๐„๐ง๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐š๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ: finally got rid of the crutches, learned how to walk againโฃโฃ ๐Œ๐š๐ฒ: leg pressed, did Bulgarian split squats, and 18 inch step ups for the first timeโฃโฃ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ง๐ž: went back into the mountains to do my first post op hike (easy w/ no incline), had my 3 month check in & got a new functional brace โฃโฃ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ: did my first moderately rated hike w/ the longest length distance (7 miles)โฃโฃ ๐€๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ: conquered 24 inch step ups โฃโฃ ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ: jumped for the first time at my 6 month check inโฃโฃ ๐Ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ซ: all the jumps! Squat jumps, frog jumps, box jumpsโฃโฃ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ: jogged for the first time!โฃโฃ ๐ƒ๐ž๐œ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ: back to heavy lifting and tried deadlifting for the first time!! oh and single leg jumps!โฃโฃ ๐‰๐š๐ง๐ฎ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ: went snowshoeing and climbing for the first timeโฃโฃ ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก: hit 225 on deadlifts and 95lbs on back squats .. and one year of recovery ๐Ÿคชโฃโฃ โฃโฃ I canโ€™t tell you how many times I cried at the beginning but goodness, I canโ€™t believe I have made it this far. getting to this mark felt unachievable and untouchable during those first couple weeks when the pain was excruciating and especially during each setback every couple months.. but with time, patience, and discipline to keep trying, Iโ€™ve made it out stronger than I was at the beginning of this journey (both physically and mentally). โฃโฃ โฃโฃ hereโ€™s to the next 12 months of kicking recoveryโ€™s ass ๐Ÿ˜˜

wearing all the fun colors today since itโ€™s the first day of spring ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’œโฃ โฃ extraaaa excited about spring this year since last spring I was non weight bearing on crutches for a couple weeks and then relearning how to walk and do basic daily things throughout May. โฃ โฃ this year I canโ€™t wait to get out and do more things these next couple months - sunny spring hikes, wildflower hikes, wearing sundresses, going to farmers markets, cute coffee dates, and paddleboarding maybe?? โ˜€๏ธ oh & Iโ€™m helping plan some earth day events at work which is of course exciting! โฃ โฃ happy spring yโ€™all ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฉท xoxo, wallakelseyy
