Brat summer in full effect ✨ Life lately has looked a lot like this! We’ve been nesting big time in the new house and having an amazing time just being in each other’s energies. Things we’ve been prioritizing lately: ✨ creativity - both Alexa and I are very creative in different ways. Alexa shows her creativity through her garden and the food related things she makes. Me on the other hand, I’ve been dabbling in my artistic side and exploring mural painting 🙌🏻 ✨ relationship building - both with ourselves and with new friends. Since moving to a new area we’ve been focused on branching out and making some new friends and have had some wonderful dinners with some amazing new people! Make your own vanilla extract! ✨ This could not be more simple: - use a liquor like bourbon or vodka (higher the prof the better, don’t worry about quality, cheap is fine) - vanilla beans (I used organic grade a Madagascar vanilla beans - in bio) Use a ration of 2 vanilla beans per 4 ounces of liquor and split vanilla beans in half to expose the seeds. Drop them in the bottle, shake, and store in a cool dark place. Shake weekly and allow 3-6 months for full infusion. You can reuse the vanilla beans for several infusions so just top off with more liquor as you use it. For inexpensive, high quality, homemade gifts just repackage them into smaller bottles using a flask. The most common things we argue about 🤷🏻‍♀️ Conflict is inevitable, but with the right tools it can help lead to deeper love. That’s exactly what it’s done for us. Cass and I are opposites in so many ways and our differences make us so incredibly complimentary to one another, but also can be a source of tension or misunderstanding if we aren’t mindful about it. One thing about our marriage is that we are both completely dedicated to learning, growing, and changing together because we trust that we both can make eachothers lives more rich. I trust Cassie as my wife, sometimes teacher, and confidant. Because conflict is never fully eliminated, we do our weekly family meetings to check in and make sure we are on track. It takes about 15 minutes for us at this point and eliminates almost all of these common conflict sources for us throughout the week. SHE’S BEAUTIFUL 🥹😭 Y’all this exceeded my every expectation. Did it take many many hours? Yea. Do my forearms hurt from painting 100 half circles. Yea. Am I head over heels in love with it? YES!!!! Doing something for the first time can be really intimidating. For me the thing that often gets in the way is my fear of the things I create never being good enough. That perfectionism can rear its head but you just gotta trust the process and take the leap anyways. If you’re thinking of tackling a project like this yourself here’s some tips: ✨ plan out your design first (either in a sketch or on a computer) ✨ a laser level will be your best friend ✨hand tracing is good, projectors are better ✨if you have ADHD skip the expensive brushes. Get the cheap ones because you’ll probably forget to wash them like I do. Our family meeting template is now DIGITAL ✨ We’ve been sharing sneak peaks into our family meetings and access to our templates for the past year, and our number one request was to make the template digital. Originally Cass designed it to be printed out and physically written on because it worked well for her ADHD and kept us unplugged and engaged with each other throughout the meeting. The honeymoon phase isn’t all it’s cracked up to be 👇🏻 Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing like the dopamine rush of falling in love. BUT for me the real magic has happened in our established married phase. Cassie and I both knew when we started dating that we were looking for the real deal. Someone to love and be loved by unconditionally and also someone to help us grow and deliver the hard truths we needed in a kind and nurturing way. We have many mindful marriage checkins and are very intentional with growing as individuals and together as a couple. And when we feel stuck we aren’t afraid to touch base with a couples therapist to help us navigate forward. This isn’t always easy or fun in the moment, but wow does it build a meaningful relationship. No shame here ✨👇🏻 It’s truly crazy to me that I used to cry getting dressed every morning before work because I was trying to force myself to wear the same things all the other girls were wearing. The idea of wearing clothes from the men’s section gave me so much anxiety that that felt like the better of the two options 🤷🏻 What I didn’t realize was happening was that I built up in my mind all these preconceived notions of what femininity meant. My whole life femininity had been shown and taught to me as looking like girls who were thin with long hair and who wore makeup and dresses and absolutely nothing else. Anytime I tried to deviate from that view I would hear the comments from people close to me in my life about how I could look so pretty if I just dressed up a little more. I’ve spent more time than I would like to admit unlearning all of that and relearning how to give myself permission to embrace myself and my style. News flash, clothes don’t make you beautiful. Beauty comes from within and when you feel good about yourself your beauty will radiate out of you. I wasn’t prepared for the whole 180 shift that happened when I started dressing in clothes that made me feel like me. And you know what? My life is so much better for it. You can see the literal confidence shift in how I carry myself and nothing is more worth it to me than that. Everyone deserves to be happy and at peace in their bodies and how they present themselves no ifs, ands, or buts, period. For anyone else on this journey of self acceptance just know you’re not alone and I see you 🫶🏻✨ you do you, boo. The results were alarming 👀👀👀 Please please test any heirloom or thrifted pieces before using them, especially for hot food or drinks. Lead is a heavy metal that can wreak havoc on the body if ingested and can be found in many vintage pieces like frosted glass, hand painted dishes, toys, and more! A simple test kit can help determine if the pieces you have are even safe to be touching let alone using. In this haul we found that all of the mid century frosted glasses pieces tested positive for lead as well as the yellow teacup and the orange and blue colored vintage mugs. As a rule of thumb we don’t use vintage dishes to eat or drink from. If a piece tests positive for lead we keep it in a glass cabinet for display purposes only and make sure it isn’t being used or handled. Better safe than sorry, and always good to keep in mind that the EPA started regulated lead in the 1970s so pieces after this time period tend to be safer.
