And on a practical level nothing did. Let’s chat ADHD brains 🧠 Turns out all those things I was struggling with that I thought everyone else was also struggling with too ended up not being a struggle for everyone else 😑🙃 I got diagnosed three years ago at 29 and have spent a considerable amount of time since then learning more about this beautiful brain of mine and how it likes to actually work and approach the world. How we changed the tone of our relationship ✨🫶🏼🏳️‍🌈 My wife and I are both fiery ambitious people which is one of our biggest draws to each other but can also translate into disagreements and annoyances more easily. When we first moved in together we found ourselves getting into conflict mainly over small things that built up over time. When one of us finally would communicate the annoyance it wasn’t delivered or received in a way that was particularly productive. Because my wife has ADHD and loves making systems. She came up with the design for a family meeting template that would work for our needs. We tweaked it over time and use it as a weekly ritual that has honestly become quite fun! We keep things lighthearted, but both respect that this is a time and place we designed to be able to hear and receive feedback in productive ways. Neither of us walk away feeling unheard or unseen. It also gives us a designated space to voice those things so they aren’t randomly blurted out throughout the week in times of stress. We’re not trying to have a baby this year, and this is why 👀👇🏼 After two years of IUI and egg retrievals we are taking a break from fertility treatments. It started to feel like fertility was a black hole taking all of our money, energy, and attention. We experienced delays from insurance, an early term miscarriage with IUI, and an egg retrieval each last year. It’s a lot on the body and to be honest I (Alexa) felt beat up by the whole process. I felt like we were just renting my body out for the cause and I never had a chance to reclaim and recover from it. Now we have beautiful embryos frozen and waiting for us whenever we decide we are ready but we have no idea when that will be. While becoming mothers is a huge dream of ours, it isn’t our only dream. We are enjoying taking a break and leaning into other goals, and will soon be revealing a huge change coming up in our lives 👀👀 we can’t reveal anything quite yet but stay tuned for exciting news 🤩 We know one day our time will come but right now we aren’t pushing the river. This is 32 ✨🌸 Yesterday we had the best day in DC celebrating Cassie’s 32nd birthday! We started off with the Cherry Blossom high tea at the @waldorfastoriadc which I highly recommend if you’re local! We sipped tea and champagne and ate all the finger sandwiches and pastries we could handle 😂 Afterwards we did perhaps our all time favorite DC activity, museum hopping. We wandered through the National Gallery of Art, Portrait Gallery, and around the Capitol grounds. Even though we’ve both lived in the area for over a decade, the charm of this city never fails to impress us. 2024 swim suit guide 🩳✨ Shopping in the men’s section can be intimidating…shopping in the men’s section for bathing suits was down right scary for me. Talk about feeling out of my element. After 3 years we finally put the finishing touch on our dining room. When we bought our home 3 years ago, the dining room was one of the first projects we tackled. We salvaged an amazing live wood slab and Cass made our dining room table out of it. We tore out the carpet and put in hardwood floors. Bit by bit we filled this room in, but we never found the right rug to fit the space…..until now! We picked up a Beckett Modern Geometric rug from the @HomeDepot StyleWell brand and it fits our space perfectly. We love that our neighborhood Home Depot had a wide range of sizes so we could get the just the right fit for our space. A suburban gay in their natural element 🏡👩‍🌾🏳️‍🌈 When my wife and moved out of our city apartment and bought a house in the suburbs three years ago we had no idea what it took to maintain a home. We didn’t know what it entailed, if we would like it, or if we’d be any good at it, but we have done our best to learn!
