HAPPY PRIDE 🏳️‍🌈 Today marks the beginning of Pride, which believe it or not I (Alexa) didn’t even know existed until I moved away from Indiana and went to college on the West Coast. This month gives us the chance to elevate our voices and our visibility so the world can know just how many of us truly exist, and are ready to fight for equal rights and protections. I attended my first pride in West Hollywood at the age of 18 and I was absolutely overwhelmed. I really had no exposure to LGBTQ+ folks and I remember having this epiphany that LGBTQ+ folks weren’t as rare as I had previously thought. That moment was pivotal to me because it was the beginning of me realizing I might belong in this community. While it took me 7 more years to realize I am indeed a lesbian, the visibility that pride provides to those of us from more rural upbringings really can’t be overlooked. WE HAVE 5 EMBRYOS ✨🍼🏳️‍🌈 Alexa had her egg retrieval yesterday and y’all we were both a little anxious. Last month I went for my egg retrieval and we were so excited when we found out that 28 eggs had been retrieved. But none of those became embryos. So going in to this one we were both feeling that anxiety and y’all Alexa did amazing. I’m so incredibly proud of her and her body and everything’s she’s doing to help grow our little family 🫶🏻 Yesterday after A’s procedure we were told that they were able to retrieve 6 eggs. This morning we got the call that of those 6 eggs, 5 were mature and ALL 5 FERTILIZED!!!! This is the furthest in this process we’ve been able to get and while the wait is not over we’re feeling so much closer to our little rainbow baby 🏳️‍🌈 So what’s next? ✨ we’ll get a call on Monday (5/29) with our day 7 embryo update (this is standard for our clinic but may be different depending on your clinic or location) this update will let us know how many embryos made it to the blastocyst stage and we’ll get our embryo grading. ✨ the surviving embryos will get frozen and sent for genetic testing (this is an optional step that we have chosen to do. If you decide not to do this you can go straight into a fresh embryo transfer) ✨ in about 3-4 weeks we’ll get the results of our genetic tests back ✨ once we have the genetic info back we’ll know how many embryos are viable and can do our frozen embryo transfer when the time is right for us. This process has been filled with so many ups and downs and all arounds but each one has affirmed for me that in Alexa I truly have a partner who makes taking on the world and all things challenging a breeze. Sunday morning ADHD Routine ✨🧠🏳️‍🌈 I’ve been really trying to set aside time to intentionally build routines into my life. I know that I thrive under them so it can sometimes feel like a cruel twist of fate knowing that ADHD makes building and sticking to routines incredibly challenging 😂 but I’m finding ways that help me and work really well for me and sharing them here in hopes they help others like me. I’m a visual person so writing things down and bright colors help me the most. I get really overwhelmed by never ending to do lists and often times have a hard time prioritizing what needs to get done first. So I created some tools to help my brain sort through all the chaos and keep me focused on the things I need to do. 🍊 Summer snack ideas from your favorite lesbian neighbors 🏳️‍🌈 (save for later) Y’all we made the mistake of buying a Costco size bag of clementines the other day and realized we wouldn’t be able to get through them all before they started going bad 🙈 but no worries because it gave us the perfect excuse to whip up one of our favorite summer snacks : clementine creamsicles ✨🫶🏻 save this one for later for a quick and easy summer snack. Clementine Creamcicles👇🏻 Ingridients: - clementines - yogurt of choice (plain) - vanilla - honey 1. In a bowl mix yogurt, vanilla, and honey together and set aside. 2. Peel and break apart clementines into slices. 3. Dip clementine slices into yogurt coving 1/2- 2/3 of the slice. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper so none of the slices are touching 4. Top with caco nibs (chocolate chips also work) and place tray in freezer 5. Remove from freezer when frozen and enjoy. Slices can be stored in a freezer safe container) 🍊 These slap especially hard on a hot day and make the perfect sweet treat. New plant lady level unlocked 🌱🏳️‍🌈🫶🏼 When I first started gardening I bought all of my plants and containers. I didn’t DIY much and honestly it was an expensive and sometimes wasteful hobby. Each year I become more sustainable with it, and this year I’ve really hit my stride! In addition to growing all of my own edible plants from seeds, I’ve also started propagating our house plants and thrifting for containers. It’s been so fun and I feel like I’m bringing new life to each piece. My goal this year is to give live rooted plants as gifts. No cut flowers, only potted plants like houseplants, herbs, and vegetables. I’m going to do a series on giving edible plants as gifts, but the possibilities are endless and I think the personal touch of a unique gift is priceless. We’re coming for you Mother’s Day 2024 🤞🏻🏳️‍🌈✨🍼 This time last year we were just starting out on our road to becoming parents and here we are a whole year later. We’ve learned so much and have been through so much together that has only made our love for each other deeper and stronger. We’ve been each others rocks and have helped each other though this process when it feels too heavy. IVF UPDATE!! 🥹👶🏼 Yesterday we started an exciting step in our fertility journey and what we hope will be the method we finally conceive our little babe! After trying IUI last year and not having the success we hoped (but no medical issues standing in our way), we tried RIVF last month. Unfortunately Cass’ egg retrieval didn’t go as planned and we were left without any embryos to transfer, BUT we are onward to the next phase in this journey. Yesterday we officially kicked off the first injections for my (Alexa) egg retrieval. It has been a quick and unexpected pivot from RIVF to IVF, but we are going with the flow and trusting that our time is coming. I’m so far 3 injections down and am feeling positive, excited, and ready to nurture life 🫶🏼 This journey has been much more challenging than we ever expected, but it truly has just affirmed for us that we chose the right partner to go through all of it with. When her hobby accidentally becomes your hobby 🏳️‍🌈🌱✨ When Alexa first told me she wanted to start a garden I kind of just rolled my eyes. At the time we were living in a small apartment with a 2ft x 6ft balcony that could barely fit two people. Her garden started out small, just a few pots with herbs. Over the years it’s grown and now it’s truly a thing of beauty. I’ve loved watching her discover a new passion and learn through the process. Each year she applies new things she’s learned that you can only pick up through experience and it’s been so cool to watch her become more confident in her hobby and try new things and grow all sorts of types of plants (Alexa has a strong preference for edible plants) While gardening may not be my top pick when it comes to hobbies you can bet I’m 100% cheering Alexa on and encouraging her. Watching your partner discover new passions and learn new things is truly one of the most attractive things and not to mention…this hobby of hers comes with plenty of tasty rewards 🤤 Some of my favorite things Alexa has grown in her garden are : 🌱 Blueberries - I got her two blueberry bushes as a wedding present and the berries taste better than any berries you get at the store 🌱 Kale - I love all the varieties that she picks and how cool they all look together (looking specifically at the curly kale) plus I love that she’s figured out a way to freeze it to make it last for so much longer 🌱 Potatoes - I had never seen how potatoes were grown until Alexa came home one day and said we’re growing potatoes this year!
