Sam Green is a certified Bourbon Steward and a second-degree Whiskey sommelier based in Los Angeles, California. His journey into the realm of whiskey and spirits started at the age of 22, and since then he has quickly taken his love of whiskey to new heights. His rapid ascent can be traced back to the same reason why he entered the spirits industry in the first place: a passion for and a bottomless curiosity about whiskey. He hosts private tasting all throughout the world and brings his boundless desire to learn and share whiskey with him wherever he goes.
In addition to authoring The Beginner's Guide to Whiskey, Green is a contributing writer at Bevvy and hosts a whiskey and spirits show on his YouTube channel Sanctorum of Spirits

Had a grand time tasting the new #irishoak pot still from @glendaloughdistillery today with @doublemeasuredonal! This is a fantastic and delicious single pot still Irish whiskey and it's also a single cask which is neat. They're using two types of barrels with this release, Quercus Alba or "American oak" aka ex-bourbon barrels (53 gallons most likely) for primary maturation. Irish whiskey law states that the minimum age to be called Irish whiskey is 3yrs and 1 day. They then put it into Irish Oak hogsheads that are approximately 145 gallons for about a year. This oak type is called Quercus Petrea in Latin or Dair Ghalda in Irish Gaelic. For every tree that they cut down to turn into staves for barrels, they plant 7 more to try and revitalize this almost extinct species (it now makes up less than .05 of the oak in Ireland). I recently had the pleasure of tasting the rerelease of @glendronach Portwood with @dramswithbecky and I just have to say WOW. This may be the most syrupy, creamy, viscous, and delicious GlenDronach I've ever had. The Port finish plays super well with GD's fruity notes. We also tasted the 15yr revival alongside it. If you heard me talk about GlenDronach at all recently you'd probably have heard me say that the 15 was my favourite, dethroning the 21... Until now! With much surprise the portwood is my new favourite dethroning the 15's short but mighty reign. The king is dead, long live the king. They also sent us some Portuguese cheese and corn bread (not pictured) from @shopportuguese to enjoy. The cheese was too strong for me but I shared it with my father and our friend Jake Bluenote and they loved it. Back in September I visited my friend Kim's restaurant in West LA @sorrynotsorryla for a socially distanced meal and whiskey tasting. She assured me that they are very safe and the tables are 6ft apart in her now "beer garden" aka what used to be her parking lot. When I arrived they asked myself and my mother to scan a QR code on the pole next to the entrance, that took me to a Google form used for contact tracing. Filled in my name, email, and declared that I had no COVID symptoms and that I don't have COVID. There is an option on the form to be signed up for her newsletter which I thought was smart (I happily signed up btw). Then they took our temperatures before escorting us to our table. Menu was contactless and was also via QR code, as is common practice recently. Staff were masked and had face shields on ANYTHING they were near a guest. Mum and I both felt very safe during our visit. On to the whiskey now shall we? While sns is officially billing itself as a rosé bar, Kim loves her whiskey. Particularly Bourbon (don't go looking for Scotch or Irish, she doesn't stock much). The day I went I tried her High West flight (which she was selling for insanely cheap for four Whiskies) as well as the Sierra Norte Purple Corn, Michters American, FEW American Whiskey, and the neatest one of them all... The West LA Willet bottling! It's a single cask with directions on how to get to the westside on the label!
