It’s a winter wonderland and I’m craving some good-for-me comfort food. Let’s whip up some whole grain oatmeal cookies with a few plus-up ingredients! To your favorite recipe (I like @quaker Best Oatmeal Cookies recipe), add protein-rich pumpkin seeds (I sautee raw seeds in butter for a few minutes), vitamin C-packed dehydrated strawberries and some semi-sweet chocolate. Roughly chop these ingredients and add to the cookie batter right before you spoon them onto the baking sheet. I like offering these oatmeal cookies to my kids for breakfast, in their lunch (a filling and nut-free school option) and after school. This batch makes about three dozen cookies so I like to prep the dough, leave wrapped in the fridge and make smaller batches over several days. There’s nothing like warm cookies on a cold day! #dietitianeats #dietianapproved #dietitianlife #rd2be #plantbased #plantbasedsnacks #kidssnackideas #kidslunchideas #chicagoblogger #northshorechicago
Into the new. ☀️ Not big into resolutions, but I like the “more of” mentality this time of year. More time spent reading, more long-distance catch ups, more undocumented IRL experiences, more positive thinking and more sunrises. I find the “more of” approach naturally pushes out some of the habits I’d like to spend less time on. What kind of things would you like to do more of this year?? #newyearsintentions #livecolorfully #liveinthemoment #bodenbyme #northshorechicagomoms
The holidays are here and I’m doing my best to help my kids stay healthy this time of year. That’s why @childlifeessentials Multi Vitamin SoftChews are a part of our daily routine. They provide essential daily vitamins in a yummy all-natural gummy without added sugar (as a dietitian, I especially love this). I feel good knowing that ChildLife Essentials are developed by a pediatrician and are made from natural ingredients and help fill the nutrient gaps missing from my kids’ diets. Plus, they are gluten-free and allergen-free. Look for @childlifeessentials at Target and Amazon and visit @childlifeessentials to learn more about all their offerings. #childlifepartner #softchewgummies#childlifeessentials #chicagomomblogger #registereddietitianapproved
Awarded the Allure Best of Beauty in 2018, ZIIP, created by founder and celeb esthetician Melanie Simon, uses nanocurrents and microcurrents to communicate with skin cells and encourages them to make an abundance of collagen and elastin. It may not be possible to visit your favorite salon frequently for a blow-out these days, but this gift makes it possible to get that salon-like treatment from home. Her gummies are dosed with CBD and/or THC with interesting flavor profiles like Cool Keylime Kiwi and Botanical White Grapefruit (not to mention there are chocolates, hard candies and fruit chews to choose from, too). These self-love holiday gift ideas include some of my favorite items that have helped me to create moments of self-care during an especially stressful year.
Sensory toys activate the senses and help kids explore different feels, sounds and smells. “Sensory toys are beneficial to all ages and abilities and not limited in use,” Dr. Dry says “They may be used to activate or to calm, to encourage engagement and hand-eye coordination, and to increase participation and turn-taking.” An active toy that can help train hand eye coordination and gross motor skills. (Amazon, $49.99 for a set of 100) Encourages fine motor control, hand strengthening and can help to self regulate or de-stress.
Our goals for the bathroom remodel: • Work with the existing space (no breaking down walls or spending $$$$ on a home addition) This was my number one remodel must-have after years of a giant door taking up space inside a very small and cramped bathroom. We pulled out the giant, space-consuming old radiator in place of a sleek, wall-mounted European-style towel rod. White subway tile with dark grey grout, black honeycomb floor tiles, a vintage sink and polished brash fixtures throughout the bathroom gave us the bright and updated look we envisioned with a vintage nod to our 90+ year old house.
Traveling during a global health pandemic brings an entire new level of concerns and planning. After much consideration, we’ve decided to attend our annual family vacation in a beach home rental – considered “low risk” by experts during COVID – and will drive to help limit potential exposure. After three-months of constant family togetherness, a three-day car trip (just one way) doesn’t look all that daunting?! With some planning and a glove-compartment packed with masks and hand sanitizer, we’re looking forward to time spent outdoors in the ocean air with loved ones we do
