Water For Elephants on Broadway! Sara Gruen’s 2006 critically acclaimed bestselling novel Water for Elephants was one of my all time favorite books. When I heard it was coming to Broadway I couldn’t wait to see it! I remembered the incredible story and couldn’t wait to see it unfold on the stage. I was simply blown away. @w4emusical was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Every part of it from curtain up to curtain down was perfection. Besides a rich and interesting plot line on the Broadway side, the circus performers were as good as you’d see in any circus performance out there. Actually, many of them are classically trained in circus arts as well as theater arts! Not only was the show amazing but the audience collaboratively “oooh-ed” and “ahh-ed” as the incredible performers stole our gasps from their gravity defying stunts. This show was not only a love story but a dazzling bowl of eye candy from every angle. Speaking of angles, we loved sitting in the front mezzanine which provided us the perfect birds eye view of everything going on. And let me tell you - there was a LOT going on! Whether you read the book or not you must flip, twist, and jump over to Water for Elephants as fast as you can. I am still beaming from this show. I want to see it again! Congrats to all the swings (literally and figuratively), understudies, dance & fight captains, circus captains, and the cast including @grantgust @saragettelfinger @joe_de_paul @prof.stanbrown @greggjedelman @wademccollum @paulalexandernolan and my fellow @uofmichigan alum @izzymccalla (who was A-MAIZE-ING!!!). 90s Con 2024 At The Connecticut Convention Center! From the 90s colors to meeting celebrities I watched for decades, it was perfection! I think we all need a little nostalgia right now and a weekend back to a simpler time. Remember when there were no cells phone or social media (too meta…?)? When family tv ruled TGIF? Me too! This is why we need 90s Con. 90s Con was filled with a super fun on-brand photo op / old school video game area, a booth where you could “get slimed”, rows of fun 90s style vendors, and 2 HUGE halls with your favorite 90s celebrities waiting to meet you! They also had full cast panels which I LOVED because you could see the on-set chemistry still alive after three decades. In fact, many casts now have podcasts together: @howrudepodcast Keanan and Lakin, Pod Meets World and @heydudethe90scalled - my absolute favorite hour of the week! Panels included: Boy Meets World, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, 98 Degrees, Dawson’s Creek, Full House, Oscar Winners Panel, 7th Heaven, Disney Princesses, Step By Step, Hey Dude, and Roswell. It was so cool to mingle with my favorite 90s icons, plus everyone was so NICE! Saturday night all we partied with rockstardjtre to kick off People magazine’s 50th anniversary with a concert from Jeff Timmons and @thedrewlachey But it was really about the human connections. It’s weird thinking you know someone because you’ve followed their career and life for three (!) decades. But you don’t actually KNOW them. Do you ask about a trip they took with their family (that you saw on IG)? Ask about upcoming or past projects? Or just simply say hello and talk about the weather? Total gray line vibes between sounding friendly and like a stalker. Ha! But truth be told, it was three days of conversations filled with laughs and a general warm hug feeling. Because we’re all old tired parents now. It was such an awesome weekend and one that fulfilled my teenage dreams of meeting the hunks from the cover of Teen Beat. WinterProof Gloves! As you can imagine Iceland is COLD. VERY COLD! Despite owning many types of gloves I feared none were a match for an Icelandic winter. I needed to amp it up. I needed WinterProof gloves! I picked the Women’s Performance Ski Gloves (in MINT!), Performance Snow Ski Gloves, and the Men’s Black Performance Ski Gloves (all with C100 level insulation). These gloves hit all the wants in something you wear for a week including heavy duty water/windproof outer fabric, a wrist cuff for added warmth, knuckle protection, a hidden zipper pocket for a hand warmer packet, and so much more! I feel like they were also longer than other gloves which kept more of my arm warm (yay!). Plus, since we kept taking them on and off I appreciated the clip to attach to our coats. They even kept me warm as I hunted the Northern Lights for HOURS in the pitch black freezing cold. The boys got the Color Block Black Web Gloves and the Black Ski Gloves which came in kids small, medium, and large fitting their little hands perfectly (also with the little hand warmer pockets). The look of all the WinterProof products hover between classic, retro, and totally on trend now. I loved the mint ones but LOVED the shiny Women’s Ultraviolet Purple Gloss Ski Gloves (sadly they weren’t the C100 level I needed). But don’t worry! I was able to fill the shiny void with their Rose Gold Toque hat. This hat was loved so much out of the box I never got to see it… it landed on my daughters head and wasn’t in my reach again until we landed back in New York. There you go - teenager approved! Frogg Toggs! While researching Iceland I kept reading come prepared with rain gear. Not only does the weather turn on a dime but all the pretty waterfalls you’ll want to see can soak you in the time it takes to snap a picture! All roads lead to waterproof gear. The name Frogg Toggs kept popping up as the best so I did a deep dive. I fell in love with the Xtreme Light line that was cute, breathable, has TONS (!) of zippered pockets, and wouldn’t take up a lot of suitcase real estate. In short - frogg toggs was in fact the PERFECT rain gear to bring. So - at first the weather was sunny and gorgeous but then, per the warnings, it turned into a rain/snow storm for the next 24 hours. We geared up and push on continuing to sightseeing (and staying dry!). I LOVED the rain pants. They easily pulled over my leggings/shoes and kept me completely dry. Even better since they were waterproof by the time I got back to the car they were dry! My kids LOVED the coats and the fun colors and didn’t complain about wearing them because they were thin, offered full coverage, and had lots of pockets. These jackets will get so much use over the next few years at baseball games and anywhere else where we want compact rain protection. I can also see these waterproof pants being a great asset to playing in the snow. You can see quickly that Frogg Toggs knows what they’re doing - because they’ve been doing it for almost thirty years! There is a ton of research behind each products and more data about the fabric than you can believe. But after putting on one of their items and seeing how it keeps you dry, warm, and comfortable it makes sense.
