A couple weekends ago a friend and I broke trail through fresh snow to make an ascent of one of Vermontβs highest peaks. Vermont may not have the highest peaks, but making a winter ascents is no joke. Above 3,000β the alpine becomes inhospitable. The temps are low, the winds usually high, and the going is slow through deep snow drifts.
