Which region of Spain would you prefer to visit? 🇪🇸 Spain is such a diverse country, and the southern and northern regions are completely different from each other. Southern Spain: The south has more of the “traditional Spanish” vibe. It features beautiful flower gardens and decorated patios, lots of Moorish influence with stunning tiles and Alcázars, whitewashed towns, all-inclusive beach resorts, and an arid mountainous landscape. Spanish traditions like Flamenco dancing are very popular here. Northern Spain: The north is very mountainous and overall less touristic than the south. There are lots of quaint mountain villages, amazing hiking opportunities, and the coastline has beautiful beaches with crystal-clear blue-green water. The north isn’t what most people picture when they think of Spain—it almost has a French/alpine feel. Both regions are amazing and worth visiting. If it’s your first time visiting Spain, you may want to explore the south as it has a traditionally Spanish feel and is more built up for tourism. I honestly love both regions, but I definitely want to explore more of northern Spain since I’ve spent more time in the south. Budget tips for visiting the Amalfi Coast 🍋🍝🛵🇮🇹 The Amalfi Coast is definitely one of the most expensive European destinations! We spent over 2 weeks exploring the area and here are some ways we were able to do it affordably: 🍋Avoid traveling in peak season: hotel prices SKYROCKET during the summer months and it is by far the most expensive time to visit the coast. Shoulder season (April-May/Sept-Oct) is best for saving money while still enjoying nice weather. I went in October and it was incredible. 🍋Book far in advanced for the best deals: if you want to stay in the most popular towns in the Amalfi Coast like Positano or Amalfi, you need to book well in advanced if you want to book decent, affordable options. I would say at least 6 months in advanced, and even further before if you plan on visiting in summer. 🍋Don’t stay in Positano. It’s pretty much impossible to find a true budget-friendly hotel in Positano unless you stay in its only hostel. Would you believe this paradise exists just a 1.5 hour drive from Barcelona?! 🤯 There are TONS of incredible day trips you can take from Barcelona, and this is one of them. Just north of Barcelona is Costa Brava, which undoubtedly has some of the best beaches in Spain. I recommend staying in this region for at least a few nights, but it is still definitely doable as a day trip from Barcelona. Can you believe this town is in Spain?! 🇪🇸 Spain, like Greece, is home to lots of towns and villages with white washed houses. In Southern Spain these are known as “pueblos blancos”, or, “white towns”. This town is in Costa Brava in Catalonia, and I couldn’t help but think how much the streets reminded me of many of the towns in Greece’s Agean islands! Especially with the blue painted accents, Bougainvillea flower bushes, and of course, the beautiful seaside views! While it definitely has a similar look to many Greek towns, the culture is 100% Spanish. There are lots of great restaurants with delicious Spanish food and I definitely recommend dining at a restaurant with seaside views. Spain’s most beautiful flower-filled city you have to add to your bucket list 🇪🇸🌸🌼🌺 Every May, Córdoba celebrates its “patios” festival, where dozens of households adorn their patios with flowers, and open them to the public. 📅 The festival typically takes place the first 2 weeks of May, when the flowers are at their peak. ➡️ If you want to avoid the huge crowds the festival brings, I suggest going the week or two AFTER the festival ends, as it will be significantly less busy, and many of the patios will still be open to the public! Save this for your future Italy trip!🇮🇹🍝🛵🍷🍋 I created this 2 week Italy itinerary for those who will be visiting Italy for the first time and want to visit the country’s most iconic places. If you’ve been to Italy already, this would still be an awesome itinerary to really get your Italy fix if you have been missing the country! 🇮🇹 ✈️ The smoothest way to start this trip is to fly into Venice, travel to Tuscany (Florence is the best base IMO), and then head south to Rome and Naples, before finishing in the Amalfi Coast (and flying home from Naples). If you’re coming from the US, flights to Rome are usually the cheapest, so you may have to adjust the pacing of this trip accordingly. Also, feel free to tweak the itinerary based on what type of trip you are looking for! If you want more beach time, you could add two days to the Amalfi Coast and skip Naples, or if you’d rather spend more time in Rome or Tuscany you could skip Venice. I suggest looking into what parts of Italy interest you the most, and using this itinerary as a base to plan your trip! Hotels in the Amalfi Coast that are *actually* affordable… The Amalfi Coast is without a doubt one of Europe’s most expensive summer destinations. BUT the good news is that with a little research and planning ahead, you can find options that are more budget friendly. Obviously this doesn’t fit into a backpacker budget (though there are a few hostels sprinkled throughout the coast). But if you want to stay in a hotel but can’t afford €500+/night, these are 3 lovely options that range from €100-€200 euros per night. **keep in mind these prices will vary depending on the dates you visit. You may end up paying slightly more during high season, but this is roughly the average you can expect to pay at these hotels.
