Section 6 of the Larapinta Trail saw us cross the Alice Valley from the Chewings Range towards the Heavitree Range. With over 300ml of rain this year we started to see an abundance of wildflowers everywhere. At East Junction you can decide to walk to Ellery Creek North or Ellery Creek South. Because we were being picked up we headed towards Ellery Creek South and after a couple of hours walking through some of the driest and most desolate parts of the trail (due to a bushfire last year) we arrived at Ellery Creek Big Hole and the most welcome cold water plunge to finish the day.. 🎨 Let’s Paint the town… The formwa public silo trail was completed in 2018 and since then visitors have gone on road trips through rural and regional #westernaustralia towns to admire them. ⛰️Larapinta Trail - Section 3 (13.6km) Officially from Jay Creek to Standley Chasm (but we did the last 10km of Section 2 also) Once we reached the beautiful Jay Creek after an early start we stopped for a break before continuing along the sandy riverbed of Jay Creek to Fishhole before we officially started our climb up the Chewings Range. There are two options on this section (a bit like choose your own adventure!😜) the high road or the low road. We choose the low road for two reasons. Firstly it is quicker and we had already walked extra distance today and also being told that some of the experiences of the low road you don’t get anywhere else on the trail. We had lunch in the peaceful Millars Flat listening to the birdlife before spending the afternoon climbing steep ridge lines before finally ascending into Standley Chasm where we finished our afternoon. Standley Chasm is also one of the only two places on the trail you can purchase food.. so a scone and a cup of tea ☕️ were in order after my day of climbing! Section 3 definitely is one of the harder days on the trail but the views were phenomenal especially in the afternoon as we were descending into Standley Chasm, it was pure magic for me. ⛰️Larapinta Trail - Section 2 (26.2km) Section 2 started with a beautiful sunrise over Simpson’s Gap before we packed up and started today’s walk. The morning was fairly easy walking through more buffel grasses and Mulgas surrounded on all sides with the ever present West MacDonnell Ranges. The gorges of Spring and Bond Gap were a lovely detour off the trail and both had lots of water in them. Stopping for lunch at Bond Gap surrounded by flowing water and river gums, it was the perfect spot to linger a while longwr and take in our surrounds. Deciding to not walk the whole of Section 2 we stopped at Mulga Camp for the night which had ample sites and even a toilet! 😜 The further I’m walking from Alice Springs the more excited I’m feeling for this epic adventure. #larapintatrail #larapintatrail #westmacdonnellranges #visitnt #hikeaustralia #hikingwomen #hikingworldwide #northernterritoryaustralia #destinationaustralia #hikingholiday #hikemore #getoutdoorsmore #adventurehike
Recently the area has had an upgrade, with redevelopment along the river foreshore and a new Mends St Arcade shopping area. Within a two minute walk of the Quest South Perth Foreshore is the South Perth ferry with a seven minute trip across the river to the Perth City, Elizabeth Quay and the Convention & Exhibition Centre. Like the ‘Bottlebrush’ which has locally made Old Young’s No.1, Giniversity aromatised wine, Australian Bottlebrush with native wattle seed and lemon myrtle. As our weekend drew to an end, I thought of the history I had with this amazing group or girls who I have called my friends for such a long time.
The train followed the ocean the whole way to Otaru where we watched the crazy japanese surfers and the waves crashing against the snowy shore. Otaru was beautiful, with snow falling on us constantly all day as we walked the streets exploring the fish stalls and souviner shops. Although sad to get back on the train after our wonderful day in Otaru, we were excited as our family friends were arriving that night. Next time you head to northern Japan for their famous j-pow and ski slopes, take a few days to explore Sapporo before you go.
As a family of five if there is LESS things for ME to have to worry about when I’m on holiday the BETTER it is for everyone in our family. The resorts that only cover your food or the ones that cover your food and some drinks but only at certain restaurants or bars. Mt Romance Farm is situated half way between Denmark and Walpole in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. Denmark Dinosaur World is 10 minutes drive from Mt Romance Farm and another great place to visit with the kids . The Denmark Dinosaur World is open 9:30-4:30 daily and costs $45 for a family (2 adults plus 3 children). We opened the bottle of local wine that we had picked up at the Bow Bridge Store and the enjoyed the peace and tranquility of Mt Romance Farm.
