Everyone's talking about MAID - have you watched it yet? If you have, tell me your thoughts below!👇 I keep receiving messages about how challenging everyone is finding life to be right now. It seems like we're 20+ months into this 'situation' and those who have held it together until now are coming apart at the seams. The feeling that there is yet another hill to climb or another hurdle in front of you is more daunting than it ever was before. Watching Alex overcome struggle after struggle because she knows she needs to create a better life for her daughter is incredibly inspiring. I'm so often reminded of one of my favorite quotes when I look back at things that I've overcome that were scary for me: “Courage is not the lack of fear. It is acting in spite of it.” - Mark Twain . . . . #staypositive #gooutside #bekind #haveempathy #compassion #currentlywatching #netflixoriginal #couragequotes #courageous

I'm a couple days late for #WorldMentalHealthDay but wanted to chat about it with you! To be honest, I struggled with my own #mentalhealth this year than I have in quite some time. When I was in my 20s and then again briefly in my 30s, I spoke with a counselor about anxiety and some childhood traumas that I didn't want to carry into parenthood. I wanted to be prepared for the potential emotional rollercoaster that I would be facing with hormones! Having 2 little ones 16 months apart is something I'm not sure I could have prepared myself for in any way... When it comes to motherhood, I'm a pretty chill parent. I don't let a ton of things bother me, I'm pretty flexible and easy going with my children and that serves our family well. But the #babyblues and likely some #postpartumdepresssion hit me harder with baby number two and it was rough. I assume it was harder the second time because after all was said and done with the caring for a newborn, I still had this entire other baby (yes, still a baby) to care for, too. I felt my heart being torn, like I couldn't bond properly with newborn while somehow simultaneously neglecting my toddler while her entire life sped by me. I cried and I cried often, usually by 5pm I'd start crying because you know, hormones. Add in working full time (because this gig doesn't come with maternity leave) and you've got someone who feels like she sucks at life. I felt like I was a crappy mom and wife, a crappy business owner and just overall sucking at everything. Somehow I felt like this while still loving every single minute of motherhood and having my babies close to me - the paradox is bizarre. I am so fortunate to have so many friends who would send me the occasional text to check in, just to see how I was managing with two (so thanks for that!). I'm also so blessed to have a first child that is so independent while also wanting to help as much as she could with her newborn sister. Everyone who has had kids this close together told me that if I can survive the first 6 months, I can survive anything. We're just over the 6 month mark and I agree wholeheartedly. And if you're in this season - I see you.

Happy Thanksgiving 🍁 I hope that you are enjoying the long weekend wherever you are and whoever you're with. Whether you have a small intimate dinner, a big family gathering, a 'friends-giving' or something more simple (or nothing at all), I hope you're enjoying the time. What are you thankful for this year? Are you doing anything fun this long weekend? dishes & glassware: @ikeacanada flatware: @hudsonsbay @hudsonbaysouthcentre runner: @homesensecanada #givethanks #thanksgivingtable #minipumpkins #tablerunner #myhomesense #ikeacanada #tablescape #holidaytableinspo #falltableinspo #falltableideas

It's election time in #YYC 🗳 early polls opened on Monday and there are a lot of things to know for this one! I've received quite a few questions about what to expect on the ballot because unfortunately it isn't as straight forward as you might think 🙈 Everything is on but here's the brief version of what you can expect so you're not taken by surprise! You will be voting for: ✅ Mayor ✅ Councillor (for your area of the city) ✅ School Board Trustee (Public or Separate) You're Also Voting On Ballot Measures: 🗳 YES/NO to Fluoride being added to our water (link in stories for this) 🗳 YES/NO on Daylight Savings Time 🗳 YES/NO on Equalization Payments 🗳 You will also be asked to nominate candidates for the Senate (we do not have an elected Senate in Canada, so these are just nominations) A few things to note: ✨ There are 27 candidates for mayor this election (yikes, right?) ✨ Every candidate's email and website is listed on so you can read all of their platforms from there. ✨ Last night was the only mayoral debate and featured only the top 5 candidates from the polls. ✨ There are no party affiliations in Canadian municipal elections! ✨ You're voting on who will be the best for you locally, on local issues (e.g. transit, property taxes, police, schools, roads, development, parks, recreation, libraries, etc,) ✨ You need to show proof of address to vote (see for more info) ✨ You do NOT need to show proof of 💉 to vote ✨ Early polls are open until October 10th - I like to vote early to avoid long lines! ✨ Election Day is October 18th! I suggest sitting down with your fave fall beverage and diving in to this so you can make the best decision for you and your family! I've also put all of this into a Story Highlight for your viewing pleasure! I've also included a 'sample ballot' in there - basically they're like those scantron sheets we had to fill out for exams in high school! Any questions - drop them in the comments or DM me if you're shy! xo #yycvotes #calgaryvotes #yycnow #yycliving #yycevents #yyclife #yycblogger #yycelection #calgaryliving #lifeincalgary #lifeinyyc #yyclocal #yyctoday

This is how we spend most afternoons from the time the snow melts to when it starts falling again. I love when a photo captures real moments in our lives like these ones do (and we know in reality these are the 3 best from about 50 haha!). The @roots Salt & Pepper collection is a staple in our house for all four of us. If you meet us in person, there’s a high likelihood that one of us is wearing a piece from this collection because we love it so much. You can always find one or more of these sweaters in our mud room, ready to grab when it’s time to head outside! It's also what I wore home from the hospital after having each of my babies. Do you have a favorite piece of loungewear? #Roots #SaltAndPepper #Loungewear #OOTD #Hoodie#Sweatpants #familygoals #2under2 #WorkingFromHome #sweatshirt #loungewear #OOTD #gifted

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and (hold your surprise) I have some feelings about it. I’m really glad that we have a day to reflect on this part of our history because it is important to do so, but I firmly believe that for the foreseeable future that this day should NOT be a paid day off for govt workers, but rather a day where those workers, particularly those in Parliament, dedicate to creating action plans to help First Nations communities. It’s all well and good to virtue signal and “reflect” but REFLECTION IS NOT ACTION, and action is what is required for these communities. Many are still under boil water advisories. Some were given expired vaccines. Many continue to be impoverished. Others require the mental health supports that come from generations of abuse from Residential Schools and the govt. A paid day off for pensioned federal employees doesn’t do anything to solve these problems, it just gives them a paid day off with tax payer money, money that could and should be used to actually help FN communities. Last I checked, a paid holiday didn’t do anything to clean up water supplies or lift anyone out of poverty. You know what I’m going to say next, don’t you? Why not take today and send an email/call your Member of Parliament (federal) +/or Member of the Legislative Assembly (provincial) +/or City Counsellor and tell them you want to see some real action to help FN communities, rather than just a virtue signal of reflection and extra perks for them on the tax payer dime. While you’re at it, reach out to your school board trustees, too. Ask them why so much of our tax-payer funded public AND Catholic education systems have failed to teach the truth to students. I’ve received more messages from people MY AGE who attended Catholic schools in Canada who had no idea that Residential School abuses occurred; they learned our nation’s history “differently”. The @cityofcalgary is giving all municipal workers a paid day off. How does a day off help FN communities? I'd bet the majority of those workers aren’t using the day to volunteer to help those communities in need or even to learn about what the day is really about.
