Simple ways to save money on your home improvements

The Books you should be reading this February Simple ways to save money on your home improvements After 12 months of spending far more time than usual within our own four walls, we have probably all spotted things about our homes that we would like to change and improve. Spending the entire year working from home without having the luxury of a spare bedroom or home office, we now have a long list of home improvements we would like to make to enhance and improve our home surroundings, particularly given the fact I am now likely to be working from home on a much more permanent basis. Home improvements don’t always come cheap however and with the COVID pandemic also having a huge impact on our families income and earnings over the last 12 months, we have been looking for some simple and practical ways to save money on our home improvements and modernise our home without breaking the bank. For furniture like sofas and living room furnishings, Easter and January are often when many of the larger sales take place, or where you may get a better interest free offering, allowing you to spread the costs interest free across a number of years.

#AD Are you dreading the clock change?? In just a few weeks time the clocks go back and in theory at least, treat us all to an extra hour in bed. Trouble is, the reality is somewhat different, usually resulting in overtired toddlers struggling to stay up later than normal, an incredibly early wake up and inevitably even less sleep than normal! According to research by In the Night Garden, 1/3 parents reported that their children woke earlier than normal after the clock change, struggling to adapt to their new routine. The good news is there are some easy practical ways to help prepare your little ones, starting NOW. I’ve teamed up with In the Night Garden and sleep expert Mandy Gurney to share five tips to help you prepare your for the clock change on the 27th October (link in bio) Hope you find them helpful and fingers crossed we all get the extra hour in bed we so desperately deserve!!! #allyouneedissleep #clockchange #changeyourclocks #wintersolstice #clocksgoback #winteriscoming #sleepdeprived #sleepdeprivedmama #extrahourinbed #inthenightgarden #fallback #sleepexpert #illsleepwhenimdead #letthembelittle #parentblogger #bedtimeroutine #bedtimeroutines

#AD Do you know how to talk to your child about their mental health? What books have helped you tackle sensitive issues? New research as part of the @booktrust T2R #timetoread campaign has shown that parents of children aged 4-11 worry about their child’s mental health at least once a week, yes only half of children talk to their parents when they’re worried, scared or upset. Reading aloud with a parent or carer, even after they can read independently, is a great way to encourage conversations and create a dialogue about issues that may otherwise be hard to discuss. Over on the blog I’ve shared which book helped my mental health as a child and how I’m now reading it with Erin too! (Link in bio). There’s also a fab book bundle to win to help kick start your conversations! #timetoread #t2r #readingaloud #readingwithkids #storytime #bedtimestory #bookbeforebed #startaconversation #kidsmentalhealth #place2be #mentalhealthawareness #howwasschool #mentalhealthforkids

#AD Pension Awareness Day If you could meet your future self what would they look like? This time last year, I attended the Scottish Widows Pension Awareness Tour and was shocked to discover just how underprepared I was for retirement. Like many women; I have taken time out the workplace for maternity leave and work part time around my childcare commitments, both of which can have an impact on my As a result, over the last 12 months I have made some small steps to improve my pension pot, increasing the amount I pay each month and benefiting from increased employer contributions too. Today Scottish Widows have been in Birmingham as part of their #TakingOnYourFutureTogether tour, answering our questions on pensions and helping us prepare better to help get the quality of life we dream of when we think of retirement. The tour moves on to Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow next, and with plenty to keep the children entertained too, why not pop along for some free pensions guidance and meet your future self?? #AD "Meet Class 2L, These kids are excited. Today's Show and Tell day, and you've been invited". At one point, in the hustle and madness of school mornings, whilst rushing around gathering up book bags, PE kits and jars for the PTA (sigh), Erin would try to convince me every day that it was Show & Tell day, desperately plotting a way to smuggle one of her prized possessions past the school gates. The girl’s favourite author is Rob Biddulph and he has recently released a new book in a school setting called Show and Tell. Unsurprisingly Show and Tell has been a massive hit, especially with the addition of some hidden surprises which made us all laugh out loud. Class 2L are about to learn a very important lesson about what really matters in life - that you don't have to be the biggest, the boldest or the loudest to be special - it's what's inside that counts. Do not underestimate the ordinary. To learn more about Show and Tell and for the chance to win a bundle of 5 of Rob Biddulph’s rhyming laugh out loud classics head to the blog now (Link in bio) @HarperCollinsCh @rbiddulph

THREE. And just like that, she was 3. Blink and you miss it. Today wasn’t the birthday we planned, there was no big reveal of her new swing set, no playing with her cousins in the garden and she is still, a year on, terrified of birthday candles(!) 😂 That said, everything is good when you have a giant 3 balloon to stick you head through! #threetoday #mybabyis3 #threenager #threenagers #thebirthdaygirl #giantballoons #mylittlegirl #lifethroughmylens #myhappycapture #mytinymoments #cherisheverymoment #brumbloggers #familyblogger #parentblogger
