Y’all I spent today tweaking my redesigned garden proposal and practicing my pitch for the farm stand I want to open. Fred looked me dead in the eye and with the straightest face I’ve ever seen asked me if my mock-up was “to scale” and what my profit margins for my bread would be. My takeaways: 1. This sandwich just needed it’s own moment 🤌🏾 I really almost spent $30 on sandwiches at a local cafe yesterday then remembered we had food at home. We packed up the perfect little home lunch instead and very happily shuffled to the park for our first picnic of the year. Eating “at home” sometimes feels like settling for something not quite as good as you could have gotten out but apart from being homemade and minimally processed this sandwich hit on *all* cylinders. I was talking to a friend yesterday about bread and it’s crazy how little we appreciate bread in the US when globally it’s is so nuanced and often times celebrated. There are endless types of bread and processes for making them. Bread making is an art and a discipline. But when Wonder bread is the standard it’s easy for that to be lost. It may sound super corny but I didn’t find bread making, it found me. In a weird and unexpected gesture of friendship, kindness and community during a super rough postpartum period. I’m so grateful it did because I’m absolutely loving this little journey!! - I still have dehydrated starter kits for anyone interested but unsure of how or just not interested in starting their own. Prepping snacks for my kids & chickens who am I!?! I saw someone share their chickens loved strawberry tops so I gave our older birds some earlier this week and I’m kind of a big deal with them right now. 😂 When we started hearing the chickens = rat rumors we decided pretty quickly we wouldn’t be offering ours kitchen scraps outside for the same reason we don’t (yet?) compost for our garden. The food scraps, not the birds, attract rats and that’s a level of this game I’m not prepared to advance to!! So for now we’re giving the chicks some “kitchen treats” while they’re still inside and looking for ways to continue offering them goodies once they “move out”. - #backyardchickens #birdphobicchickenmama #chickensofinstagram #chickencoop

Surfacing after a weird but still full & happy Easter weekend with some of our people! This year the “frills” were at an all time low, we got more outtakes in our photo reels than printable shots, the babe and I both got sick and our week is off to a fumbling start but life & God are still very very good! Picked up this gorgeous dozen recently when I visited my good friend Kristina and have been saving them specifically to have fresh “Easter eggs” this week/weekend. Something about becoming a mother yourself puts into complete perspective the humanity & reality of your mother. There is much about her motherhood that falls short of perfect, much like my own. I don’t seek to hold her accountable for any version of her history neither of us are proud of. I seek instead to hold space for her as I pray my daughter will for me and to entend the abundant grace she is due. Mom, I love you with as much of me as I know how.
