The concept behind Neverending Field Trip is a pretty simple one. People learn better from first-hand experience.

Field trips are all about getting to the places you want to learn about, seeing what it's actually like, and learning how things actually work.

My goal is to use my family's field trips around the world to inspire people to do educational travel with their own kids, whether that's around the block, or around the world.

As much as I love field trips, experiencing things is only a single facet of a well-rounded education. Another big part is application. My wife has been using the wonderful Glitterbombers art projects by @soulsparklettesart to help the kids explore some more! I've been really impressed with the scope of Glitterbombers' art curriculum. They have art projects covering not just ancient Egypt, but also Greek and Norse mythology, holidays from around the world, animals and climates, and so much more. If you're looking to add some art into your kids' lives, definitely check out her stuff. I've been really impressed with the scope of Glitterbombers' art curriculum. Saqqara is an archaeological site not far outside of Cairo, and home to the oldest known step pyramid in the world, the Pyramid of Djoser. This pyramid far predates the pyramids of Giza, being built around the year 2650 BC. Archaeologists are still making discoveries about what life must have been like during that period, today! #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Egypt #AncientEgypt #Cairo #Saqqara #PyramidofDjoser #Archaeology #History #steppyramids #pyramids

History can be one of the trickier topics to learn about experientially, since it's all about things that aren't happening anymore. That's why I love living history experiences! The Pharaonic Village in Cairo tries to put kids right back into ancient times by giving them a front row seat to history. A short boat ride takes visitor's through a (replica) Egyptian village where artisans work their different crafts. An Egyptian priest takes you on a tour of a temple, and a family invites you in to see what Egyptian houses looked like thousands of years ago. There are a handful of other activities at the Pharaonic Village, as well, including a handful of small museums, some (very old) carnival rides, an art studio, and a couple places to eat. It definitely isn't one of the "must-see" attractions in Cairo, but if you have some downtime and want to give the kids an educational experience, it's a neat stop to add to your trip! #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #livinghistory #history #historicalfieldtrips #Egypt #AncientEgypt #Cairo #PharaonicVillage #funthingstodo

Gift giving holidays can be difficult for anyone, but when you're living out of a suitcase there's an extra push to make sure that any gifts you give are both fun and functional. Of course, traveling light shouldn't mean missing out on getting something fun, so I've compiled a list of travel-friendly gifts that will lift their spirits without weighing down their bags. Check it out on the blog! Cairo definitely has a lot of ancient history to explore, but exploring the present can be a lot of fun too! If you (or your kids) need a break from the archaeology, I highly recommend a visit to Al Azahr park. It's a beautiful green space in the middle of the city, with loads of great play equipment and a restaurant with some of the best food I've eaten in Egypt. #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Egypt #Cairo #AlAzahrPark #kidspark #parks #playgrounds #restaurants #greenspace #playtime

While the Pyramids are definitely the biggest draw for visitors to Cairo, they are far from being the only thing worth seeing. Egypt is rich in ancient history, and it has museums filled with artifacts to prove it. At the suggestion of our guide, we decided to visit the Egyptian Museum on the same day that we went to the pyramids, but it definitely could have used a day to itself. The crown jewel of this particular museum was an entire room dedicated to the treasure of King Tut, but unfortunately, guests are not allowed to take pictures there. The other hard thing was that many of the museum's exhibits have already been moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is not yet open to the public, though we are hopeful it will open before we leave Egypt. #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Egypt #ancientegypt #Cairo #EgyptianMuseum #museumofegyptianantiquties #artifacts #museums #sculptures #KingTut #hieroglyphics #archaeology

You could probably guess from my last few posts, but our family is in Egypt! We decided to join up with some wonderful world schoolers in Luxor, starting about a month ago, and will be in the area for a few months. Before heading south to Luxor, we decided to spend about a week in Cairo to get used to our new time zone and see the Great Pyramid. Since it is the only remaining Wonder of the Ancient World, it seemed like a great way to start our time in Egypt! #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Egypt #Cairo #GreatPyramid #WondersoftheWorld #Pyramids #Giza #Archaeology #ancientegypt

While it is well known that Ancient Egyptians wrote out much of their history using hieroglyphics, many people ignore the lesser-known "lowerglyphics" below them. Antelope Canyon is possibly one of the most recognizable places on Earth, in large part, thanks to Windows Desktop backgrounds. It's beauty has captivated me for years, so we decided to make it the last stop on our road trip before we changed gears! Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon cut into the sandstone of the Arizona Desert. Wind and flood waters have shaped it for years, into a photographer's dreamscape. Walking through the canyon, I don't know that it was possible to take a bad picture! If you're planning on traveling through Page, AZ, definitely make some time to check it out. #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Arizona #PageAZ #SlotCanyon #Sandstone #Sand #Beautiful #photography #LowerCanyon #desert #geology

The Great Pyramids are one of the most quintessential of archaeological field trips on Earth! As the oldest surviving Wonder of the World, it is a site that has captured the imaginations of travelers around the world literally for millennia. I love that we live in a world where it's possible to hop on a plane today, fall asleep, and wake up in a place where you can see something so amazing. Thinking about making the trip yourself? Just wanting some great material for teaching your kids about Ancient Egypt? Check out more at the blog! The other big thing that Yellowstone is known for is all of it's absolutely spectacular hot springs! Grand Prismatic Springs is, of course, the big one. Its rainbow hued waters have been aweing tourists for generations, and for good reason. But even without Grand Prismatic, there are a ton of smaller hot springs that stun in their own ways. Unfortunately, despite the huge number of springs, there aren't a lot of places to take a dip. #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Yellowstone #Wyoming #Montana #AmericaTheBeautiful #NationalParks #HotSprings #GrandPrismatic #rainbow #bacteria #Extremophiles #theColors #Hot #NoSwimming

Another HUGE part of Yellowstone was seeing all the amazing wildlife! Almost immediately, we spotted this lovely Elk mom with her two calves, plenty of ravens, and my first-ever wild otter sighting! And of course, there were tons and tons of bison. What we didn't get to see in the wild were any of the park's wolf packs or bears, but really, that's ok. Part of the reason that large predators like these have been able to make a comeback is that people have been working to keep them wild. So the farther away they stay from us humans, the better. BUT that doesn't mean you can't enjoy them at places like the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center that I wrote about a couple weeks ago. You can check that out on the blog! https://www.neverendingfieldtrip.com/grizzly-wolf-discovery/ #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Wyoming #Montana #Yellowstone #NationalParks #AmericaTheBeautiful #Wildlife #Elk #Bison #Otter #Raven #Grizzly #Wolf #GrizzlyandWolfDisocveryCenter

When I think Yellowstone, the first thing that comes to mind are the geysers. Specifically, Old Faithful, which has been erupting on a schedule for longer than we've known about its existence. Seeing Old Faithful was one of the major reasons for our trip, as a recent report has stated that if drought conditions continue to worsen, it may stop erupting. Alongside Old Faithful, we also had the chance to see a ton of other geysers in action, including Castle, Grand and Beehive! #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Wyoming #Yellowstone #NationalParks #AmericaTheBeautiful #Geysers #OldFaithful #Drought #ClimateChange #geology

Long before we actually got there, we could see Devil's Tower rising from the land ahead of us! Devil's Tower is a massive rock formation located in the plains of Wyoming, and it is also the very first of America's National Monuments! One of its most striking features is the hexagonal shape of the pillars making up the tower. These are the result of a geologic process called 'columnar jointing', which occurs as molten rock cools and hardens. Pretty awesome! #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #Wyoming #DevilsTower #NationalMonument #Geology #Columns #ColumnarJointing #unusualsights #AmericaTheBeautiful #JrRangers

On the way out of the Black Hills National Forest, we took a scenic drive through Spearfish Canyon. We didn't stop for any of the great trails in the area, but we just had to stop for these mountain goats! They were in the road, after all. After spending the night in Spearfish, South Dakota, we also ended up having a wonderful, free family field trip to the DC Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery! It was a surprisingly interesting trip, with fish to feed and an entire museum dedicated to fish hatchery's role in providing food for millions of Americans during the Great Depression era. #neverendingfieldtrip #homeschool #worldschool #homeschooldad #roadschool #dadlife #travel #fieldtrip #travelwithkids #learnwithme #1000hoursoutside #goadventurewiththem #explore #SouthDakota #Spearfish #SpearfishCanyon #MountainGoats #trout #fishhatchery #dcboothhistoricfishhatchery #feeedingfishes #Feedingpeople #Freethingstodo
