A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change. I challenge everyone to change the language and words used to describe women, and in doing so, change the narrative and stereotypes given to women from when they were children. As a proud mother of two daughters, it is increasingly important that our daughters feel empowered by words, not diminished. I will do my best to continue that work so our daughters and sons live in a more equitable and fair world.
Truth is: we are absolutely blessed -- and spoiled -- to live in a city that is so varied in offerings and rich in culture, people and happenings. The kids went to school with their pink tees, and will likely be reminded about bullying and the consequences bullying can have on a person's life. I frequently ask my girls who they play with in the school yard and remind them that it's important to be kind to one another. There are new forms of bullies -- trolls online, others who say hurtful things to purposely cause harm or bring you down. Don't be a bully, and if you see a bully -- especially if it's your child -- extinguish their flame.
