Commuter turned vacationer 👔 ➡️ 🧳 It’s giving, “The Suite Life of Chris and Alex” 😎 We both actually used to work in FiDi when we were working in film and television full time. So it was a fun switch up to stay at @gildhall and play tourist instead of industry worker at long last! It was a weird but welcome change to carry suitcases down the street instead of Pelican cases full of camera equipment 😂. Being right near Fulton Center and the World Trade Center means you’re a train away from anywhere else you’d want to go in the city. A prideful, gilded getaway 🌈 We always look to stay at LGBTQ+ friendly hotels, especially during NYC Pride weekend. We look to be able to show up exactly as we are without judgment, whether donned in rainbows and pasties 🤭 or snuggled up sharing pasta like Lady and the Tramp (less romantic than it seems 😅). @gildhall was that safe space for us this year. Upon check-in, we were asked for our pronouns and throughout our stay every member of the staff was super inviting and helpful to us, taking an interest in how our pride was going and giving us recs for hidden gems. Rainbows after the storm ☔️🌈 The NYC Pride March on Sunday was symbolic in a lot of ways. Halfway through it stormed. It down poured. It literally rained on our “parade”. This Pride season has had a lot of metaphorical rain. It washed away facades on many fronts and opened all our eyes in many ways. Pride has always been a protest and we protest with joy. We protest with being our unapologetic selves. You don’t have rainbows without rain. Our community is resilient and finds ways to overcome time and time again. The only way out is through and we know that the rainbow at the end is going to be more beautiful than any of us can imagine 🥹🌈. This weekend our rainbows looked like celebrating our community on the @worldpridedc big bus along 5th Avenue with our pals @mattandlouie , having our visibility broadcasted on @abc7ny , and marching for a better world with our fellow d y k 3 s . Here’s a story time ~ Last year, we explored our first Midwest city together and attended Grand Rapids Pride in Michigan. Truthfully, we didn’t know what to expect but we were blown away by the inclusivity and thriving LGBTQ+ community we found 🥹. At Pride, we found a spot in the middle of an intersection to snap a photo. We took out our tripod, raised our Pride flag proudly, and shared a kiss. This was something so second nature for us, but we found it was not so for others. A small group of onlookers had gathered around us, watching, and taking videos. One person came up to us and said, ”What you did was so beautiful”. Another person expressed, “You were so confident with your flag, that was so inspiring, thank you”. When we travel, so does our visibility, and that visibility gives others permission to be their authentic selves, and shows that acceptance exists elsewhere. It also highlights the privilege we should never take for granted of living in and coming from areas of the US that are more open minded. And that’s why we do what we do.
