A few things I created this past week. 🤠 Back on my procreate sh*t and finally designing some stuff for funsies …. Feels good! I’m reading Braiding Sweetgrass for the second time… this time with my partner who hadn’t read the book. It got me thinking a lot about the power of circular economies, regenerative approaches to business & life…etc. Have yall read that book? If not, add it to your list. I’m not a religious person but if any book was my bible, it’d be this one.

Things that no one told me about starting a creative marketing studio 😅😅😅😅….. Lemme know what relates! 🌈 No one told me that I’d further deepen a love-hate relationship with social media that sometimes makes it hard to do my job! 🤣🤣 ☁️ Bigger isn’t always better! While expanding your team may seem like a hip, cool & shiny sign of growth, managing a larger team can lead to unnecessary stress and overwhelm. Sometimes, a smaller, more lean team is more effective in delivering high-quality work while keeping the PEACE and balance within yourself. 🤠 Understanding who you want to work with, why you want to work with them, and how you want to work with them is essential for determining your niche. It’s not just about following how everyone else does it or following some basic af formula for niche dev; it’s about aligning your values with who you want to work with and HOW you want to work with them. This takes time & trial and error to clarify! 🧼 Your work can quickly overtake your entire life (including your inner world!!) if you let it. Learning how to infuse real time off into your workflows is essential for maintaining your well-being and preventing burnout. 🌱 Baking sustainability into your creative business prob is different than how you think it is. It requires working through difficult patterns and internalized social norms to create a truly sustainable business. This can be challenging but mindset and alignment are huge parts of crafting a sustainable business for yourself. 🌈 While creativity drives your work, managing a creative studio also requires business savvy. It’s about finding a balance between feeding your creative expression and establishing sustainable business growth. What have you learned in your biz journey that you weren’t necessarily prepared for? Xx

The more we return to the wisdom of the earth, the more we return to the wisdom of ourselves. The more we learn to listen to the plants, the more we learn to listen to ourselves. The more we learn to trust the tides of the oceans, the more we learn to trust the tides within ourselves. The more we remember the stories of the land, the more we remember ourselves. Happy earth day 🌱.

Living for all the spring time vibes rn 🍋‍🟩🌈🌷🪩✨!

My take on the social media isn’t real trend. 🤠 One of the greatest ways to show the world love is to be willing to critique and challenge the parts that are not working. To me, critiquing the very industry’s, systems or constructs we exist in is a way to help evolve it in a more sustainable and healthy way. We can LOVE something and also want it to be better. That’s how I feel about so many things. I love people, but I also want us to be better humans to each other and the planet. I love marketing, but I want to see it used more as a force for good and less as a vehicle for social control and manipulation. I love content creation and the way social media gives us the gift of self expression and community building... but I am critical of the negative side effects, addictive habits and attention economy that is has created. To honor our humanness is to honor the very non-binary nature of the world and ourselves. Things do not have to be black and white, because the world is not black and white - it’s a rainbow of colors, experiences, ways of looking at things, perspectives, and options. Things can be AND/BOTH/ALSO...instead of just YES/NO/RIGHT/WRONG. By embracing this multifaceted approach, we open ourselves up to greater understanding, empathy, and connection with ourselves and the world around us. We find ourselves at an important moment in time, where reclaiming our humanity is not just a desire but a necessity. We were not made to be robots, endlessly scrolling through timelines and working our lives away. We were created to create, to live, to experience the world, and to exist in right relationship with ourselves and each other. Now more than ever, we need to prioritize genuine connection, empathy, and compassion in our interactions with ourselves and others. We need to reevaluate our values and priorities, shifting away from a mindset of competition and scarcity toward one of collaboration and abundance. We CAN create spaces that honor our humanity and form true connection, both online and offline. It just takes presence, intention, and conscious action.

When I realized that I stopped making time to nurture my personal creativity, I knew something had to shift so that I could recenter my own artistic itch. I’ve been an artist, designer, and creative person for all of my life. This is who I am before I am a marketing specialist, a brand and marketing manager or a business owner. Art & design has always been my first love. Its what made me get into marketing, actually! Cause I loveeeee the creative and expressive side of it. I love coming up with cool ways to support brands in coming alive online. It’s so satisfying to me to see other people not only happy with what I create for them, but excited & proud to share it as a representation of them & their brand. What. An. Honor. 🥹 There are many aspects of marketing that I’ve tried to squeeze myself into because A) I can do it — B) everyone else is doing it — and C) it seems like that’s what I ‘should’ be doing. It’s SO easy to lose sight of our own unique expression due to fearing that we won’t be relevant enough if we don’t keep up with the kardashians of our industries 😅. I’ve been hearing so many folks talk about how burnt out they are. How tired and frustrated they are. And how difficult organic marketing has become. If that’s the case for you, the best thing you can do for yourself IMO is re-prioritize YOUR passions. Fxck what everyone else is doing. What do YOU want to be doing? For me, it’s artistic marketing & design. So, that’s what I’m focusing on for the time being! I am currently working on a VV EXCITING new project with another DGB team member — stay tuned for more official info about it SOOOON… and I am going to start PAINTING and creating my own art again. Maybe I’ll even open a lil’ shop, who knows. 😛 The point is: capitalism will do whatever it can to suck the creativity, joy and authenticity out of us. It’ll try to turn us into machines. It’ll cause us to sacrifice our personal needs and wants. Don’t let it. Fight for yourself and what YOU want to create and make out of your life. Your creativity is medicine for this world. Share it. 🌈

I take the relationships I get into in business just as seriously as any other relationship, HBU? Relationships take work, work that all those involved have to be willing to put in in order to form a relationship that’s healthy & sustainable. Our professional relationships are one of many types of relationships we can get into. And within that, there are many different sub-types of relationships we may want to enter into. We can enter into relationships with folks we hire to outsource work to, folks we welcome in as a new client, folks who purchase our products, folks we hire for coaching or consulting… folks we partner up with to collaborate with… and the list goes on. Since business is largely a relationships type of thang, I find it to be REALLY IMPORTANT to assess & consciously choose what types of relationships we want to be in. This takes being present and clear with what we are looking for, the dynamics we desire, and what we are vs are not available for. It’s unfortunate that business relationships are notorious for feeling transactional or hierarchal. We may feel like we are superior (or inferior) to those we enter into relationships with. We may feel like we need to control or dominate in our professional relationships in order to succeed. But let me tell you: so much of how we have been taught & shown to exist in biz relationships is deeply rooted in superiority & toxic capitalistic models. I dunno about you, but that’s NOT the type of relationship I want to have with anyone- work related or not! Collaboration driven relationships are WAY different of an approach to professional relationships than what we are used to. But I find they are also much healthier, more balanced and regenerative ways of relating to one another than superiority driven relationships. We all deserve to have professional relationships that are reciprocal, respectful, loving and compassionate. Anything else can leave us susceptible to facing imbalance challenges. Collaborative relationships are how we operate around here. Is this the type of relationship dynamic you’re seeking professionally? I’d love to read your thoughts on this topic, share below!! ⬇️

Im going to be REALLY HONEST for a minute: I often feel like a fraud because I consider myself a brand marketing professional who doesn’t really like marketing 😂. It’s not actually that I don’t like marketing… it’s that I don’t like certain aspects OF marketing - or what folks often associate WITH marketing. It took me a while (and I’m still in a learning process with this) to realize that I don’t have to do certain aspects of marketing if I don’t want to. As a studio founder, this has been interesting to navigate and it’s caused me to offer services for certain aspects of marketing that I actually dreaddddd doing. It also has taken me a while (and still learning) to give myself permission to NOT focus on certain aspects of marketing that I am not about. I could come on here daily and share average, vanilla tips about marketing all day long. I could share content ideas and tips, marketing insider scoops to what’s working, marketing channel updates, hook and marketing copy techniques, optimization strategies, how to get more reach and engagement, ways to make more money with your marketing, how to sell ethically and effectively thru your marketing and drive better traffic to your website…. and pretty much anything else you see every other marketer on the planet talking about. I’ve been doing this whole online marketing thing for so long, y’all. Like a decade type of long 😅. But just coming on here to share about the above things feel SO BORING to me. It’s not me or reflective of my approach to marketing. I care FAR MORE about creativity & artistic expression thru marketing efforts than I care about all of the other stuff. I don’t focus on combining marketing with sales- because sales is a DIFFERENT PART of your business. Marketing can support it- but we aren’t responsible for it! I’m not about obsessing over vanity metrics and making folks insta-famous… I care about having fun with your marketing, feeling ease and alignment, being authentic, treating content creation as an art form, and taking a values-driven approach. There are SO MANY misconceptions to marketing… but what it all comes down to is: we get to make it want WE WANT! 🤠🤙🏼🌈

Many things can co-exist at the same time. We can feel discomfort and also safety. We can feel fear and also excitement. We can feel no longer one thing, but not yet another thing. We can be one thing, and yet also be another. We can have countless passions, interests, skills, hobbies, desires. We can want one thing, while simultaneously wanting something completely opposite of that. Taking a non-linear and also non-binary approach to life / work / relationships / you name it …. is all about getting right with our own complexities as well as the complexity of the world around us. It’s also about getting comfortable with CHANGE. As humans, we resist change so much even when we know it is so utterly essential to our evolution. I’ve been thinking a lot about how much the idea of a career squashes our creativity and often causes us to resist our ever changing nature. Personally, I don’t want to ‘build a career’…. I never have. That’s probably why I struggled SO MUCH to define my major in college & changed it countless times 😆. I don’t want to be boxed into ‘only being’ one thing… when in reality I am SO many things… and that is always changing! My partner and I have been reading the book East of Eden together. We only have about 30 pages left. It’s been an absolutely incredible read. Last night, we read a part spoken by the character, Lee (if you’ve read the book I’m sure you love Lee like I do 🥹). Lee shared an excerpt from The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius: “Everything is only for a day, both that which remembers and that which is remembered. Observe constantly that all things take place by change, and accustom thyself to consider that the nature of the universe loves nothing so much as to change things which are and to make new things like them. For everything that exists is in a matter the seed of that which will be.” The only constant is change, as they say. How can you embrace it more instead of resisting it? What will you GAIN / be liberated from by doing so?!

In celebration of the Spring Equinox 🌸🌈, I am SO PROUD to announce that DoGoodBiz Studio officially has joined @1percentftp ! 1% for the planet is a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions through philanthropy. Joining this network of like- minded organizations wasn’t just a decision for us - it was a natural progression in our journey towards practicing our values! We are well aware of the fact that the traditional model of marketing often neglects a responsibility toward the well-being of people and the planet, prioritizing proft over sustainability. However, we believe in doing marketing differently - in a way that not only drives success for the people we support but also prioritizes the health of our planet. Through our partnership with 1% for the Planet, we’re taking steps to integrate environmental responsibility into our business model. By committing to donate 1% of our annual sales to environmental causes, we’re not just talking the talk - we’re walking the walk. This financial support will directly contribute to initiatives aimed at protecting and preserving our natural world for future generations. While many businesses view sustainability as an afterthought or a marketing gimmick, we embed it into everything we do. As a studio, we understand that our actions have the power to influence not only those we work with but also the broader community. We’re excited to focus our donations for the 2024 year on supporting local organizations in Portland, Oregon. This year, a portion of our donations will be directed towards initiatives that prioritize community-led programs and Indigenous land back initiatives in the Portland area. Through these partnerships, we aim to support our local community. This is our way to invest in a more equitable and sustainable future for all. 🌈 🤠 I am SO excited to get to know other businesses that are a part of this community and to continue to support businesses that make it their mission to DO GOOD. Xx

A Monday mood 🤠🌈.

Today is world consumer rights day! I want to bring some awareness to this topic because our rights as consumers matter and should be advocated for. Prioritizing consumer rights underscores the importance of considering how every transaction, every interaction, and every decision we make has the opportunity to either care about the wellbeing of consumers …. Or not . It’s a day that resonates deeply with our ethos as we are a marketing studio that prioritizes ethical marketing practices. World Consumer Rights Day serves as a reminder of the responsibility businesses have in ensuring fair treatment for all consumers. To run a business in a way that cares about the very folks who are consuming our content, buying our products and experiencing our services takes INTENT and ACTION. Marketing for good means considering not just what’s good for you and your business or brand… but what’s also good for people and the planet as a whole. We CAN find a middle ground, where all benefit - not just a few. It just takes giving a f*ck. 🤠🌈 Happy world consumer rights day! May we all put deep care and thought into how we market today and every day.
