WHY YOU NEED TOOLS BESIDES THE SCALE...please read. I generally never post photos like this because it makes me feel incredibly vulnerable and if I'm being honest, some body shame (hello weird internet), but when I saw the difference in just about ONE MONTH I had to to encourage you to PUMP SOME IRON! On the left was July 27 and on the right today, 37 days apart to be exact. If you especially look at the midsection and shoulders/arms you can see a noticeable difference. So what's different? Not the scale or my diet! My weight 37 days ago to this morning is within 1/4 of a pound. Yet if I measure my waist, there is an inch difference and my arms definitely look more defined. If you don't take photos or measurements and only look at the scale, you may think you haven't made any progress. However, over these last 37 days I've completed 12 full-body strength training workouts in addition to my regular walking/hiking. As you can see by that number, only about 3 times a week and I'm certainly not killing myself with it, but it is absolutely creating a change in my body composition! Strength training is key for body composition at any age, but especially important as we get older! It's also the easiest way you can create greater metabolic health. Your body does nothing but lose muscle mass after 40 and you need proper protein AND strength training to at least maintain what you have and build some. I've never been consistent with it my whole life because I just don't enjoy it...but the ability to see some results and feel stronger is helping keep me in the game! Do you do any lifting? I'm not a huge pumpkin fan, but even I love these chocolate chip cookies. I first had a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie back in grad school when one of my friends brought them into the lab one November. I was definitely hooked! I finally decided to work on a keto version and it turned out great. You know a keto cookie is never quite like the real thing, but these are very tasty! And, they even have some protein powder to give you al little something extra for your macros. What prompted this photo today is how happy I am with my latest skin care and at home laser treatment with @nira_skin is going (links in bio). The benefits I have experienced are amazing! Reduced anxiety and depression and weight loss plus it's the easiest way of eating I've ever done...definitely easier than the 7 years I was vegetarian. And my brain feels 1000% better than all the years of low-fat! Due to my previous health history and plenty of cancer in my family, I do a lot of research and have implemented a few key supplements as well as intermittent and extended fasts. Since much of my work is writing and focus, I notice the biggest impact on how my brain functions day to day. Ketosis and ketones suppress my appetite and my body composition is continuing to change in a positive direction. There are a lot of products in the Mexican isle that are great for keto, but there are also plenty that are full of carbs and other questionable ingredients like soybean oil, canola or corn oil and fillers. Here are the ingredients from a major US brand of taco seasoning: chili pepper, maltodextrin, salt, onion powder, spice, corn starch, sea salt (potassium magnesium chloride, salt). You can easily make your own Mexican spice blend by combining roughly equal parts of chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Mexican oregano, pepper and salt. They’re soy-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, nut-free and GMO-free.
Everyone reacts differently to carbs, but in general, carbs from lower starch, whole food vegetables don’t cause a big blood sugar rise. The Kevin’s sauce adds some additional fat as well that you won’t find in a typical cilantro lime rice dish. the Kevin’s Chipotle Lime sauce, our chimichurri sauce mixed with a couple of tablespoons of lime juice is a great substitution. However, finding the sauce for cilantro lime cauliflower rice really isn’t a problem since you can easily order from their website or on Amazon.
