Are you ready to power๐Ÿ’กyour home or business with renewable electricity but unsure how? @theenergy.coop makes it easy to choose 100% wind ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ and solar โ˜€๏ธ electricity with no sign-up fees. You can choose from a few different programs, including the EcoChoice Pennsylvania plan, which is sourced in Pennsylvania (and helps grow the local green economy.) How can you recycle wine bottles? โ™ป๏ธ As we know, there is no such thing as "away." When you throw something away, it must go somewhere. In Philly's case, our trash often ends up in the incinerator or ends up in landfills outside of Philadelphia. We can change this locally ๐Ÿ’š: DYK glass is 100% recyclable and if processed correctly can be reused multiple times. Use this guide to learn how to recycle glass properly and what options are available to you to divert glass from landfills. . . . . #phillyactivist #phillyphilly #recycleandplay #glassrecycling #winedrinker #wineseason #igers_philly #philly_igers #whyilovephilly #phillylocal #sustainablephilly #grenphilly #beachangemaker

Local and small business shoutout: Affordable, natural, and sustainable skincare for the whole family made with ingredients grown in Philly! West Philly native Lakisha Bullock began dreaming about starting her product line after being bullied for her hair and appearance at her middle school. After successfully experimenting with natural products and doing extensive research, she launched @SCBNaturals in 2015. S C B stands for She Creates Beauty. SCB products are crafted without parabens, petroleum byproducts, and synthetic fragrances. Instead, they make small batches using locally sourced, fair trade, organic ingredients and often grow many of them in their garden. SCB is one of the few local skincare brands to offer a packaging take-back program, offering customers 5% off their next purchase when returning empty containers. SCB Naturals products are sold locally by several retailers, including @phillyfoodworks and the @kcfcoop and at farmers' markets, like the weekly @eastfallsfarmersmarket

DYK, the Delaware River is home to a genetically unique population of Atlantic Sturgeon found nowhere else in the world? The Delaware River historically supported the largest population of Atlantic Sturgeon in North America; however, due to over-harvesting, pollution, and habit loss, Atlantic Sturgeon were listed under the Endangered Species Act in 2012. In November, watershed activists led a march in a mock funeral procession โšฐ๏ธ starting on the SouthEast corner of Philadelphia City Hall and ending at the US Army Corps of Engineer offices to deliver a message for the sturgeon. Demonstrators highlighted the declining population and pointed to government agencies to take action. Citizens can learn more about "Dino in the Delaware," a campaign by the @delawareriverkeeper Network, on www.dinointhedelaware.org and sign the petition to urge agencies to protect the Atlantic Sturgeon.

Local community organization highlight: @sharingexcess uses surplus produce to solve food scarcity. By partnering with grocery stores, restaurants, wholesalers, and farmers Sharing Excess rescues and redistributes over 120,000 lbs. of food weekly. (You may have heard of Avogeddon in October when they gave away millions of avocados ๐Ÿฅ‘ to Philadelphians.) Team SE shared more about their mission at SustainPHL Munch & Learn and attendees were able to take home rescued packaged foods and produce. SE recently launched the Food Rescue App. It connects volunteers with donation-ready food from local grocery stores and restaurants, helping in the fight against food waste. The app tracks daily impact and provides volunteers with step-by-step instructions. Sign up to help fight food waste on your own schedule and make a difference in your community. #rescuefood #foodwaste #fightfoodwaste #phillyactivist #phillyphilly #phillyfoodie #philadelphia_ig #philly_igers

Happy Thanksgiving from the Green Philly Team! As always, we hope everyone enjoys quality time with their loved ones and expresses gratitude for our beautiful planet! November is National Native American Heritage Month, and we will be taking time to learn about and acknowledge the contributions of the indigenous people. In Philly, Native American exhibits at @pennmuseum, @philamuseum, @amrevmuseum, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts help move past one-dimensional representations and focus on shared values of generosity, gratitude, and community. #nationalnativeamericanheritagemonth #thanksgiving #nativehistory #explorephilly #phillymuseums #thingstodoinphilly #visitphilly #greenphilly
