A few of the lovely Victorian homes in Cape May, New Jersey. Cape May’s renowned collection of Victorian homes includes more than 600 buildings designed, built, and lovingly restored to include intricate gingerbread trim, steep-gabled roofs, and vibrant color combinations. While the ocean put Cape May on the map, the National Historic District sets the town apart from other seaside towns and attracts visitors from all over the world. Several fires destroyed mostly wooden houses in the 1850s, and the disastrous fire of 1878 wiped out about half the town. When it was time to rebuild, the new buildings were constructed in the style of the day — Victorians with fanciful trim and intricate dormers and gables. My suggestion for checking out Cape May’s Historic District is to just wander around on foot and see where it leads. Most of the homes are private residences or vacation rentals, but they are easy to view from the outside. During our visit, we walked many of the side streets between Beach Avenue and Washington Street and found so many beautiful homes. Some of our favorites were on Ocean Street, Jackson Street, and Decatur Street. Be sure to check out the historical tours available through @capemaymac #newjersey #capemaynj #jerseyshore

It’s safe to say that Flynn and Malinda love the ocean, which is right out the door from our Airbnb in North Cape May, New Jersey. We are huge fans of off-season travel. It’s affordable, less crowded, and so relaxing. Plus, it’s nice to escape mud season in Vermont. @northcapemay_bythebay_nj #newjersey #jerseyshore #capemay #northcapemay #dogfriendly #nj

Planning a visit to the Black Hills in South Dakota? Horsethief Lake Campground in Black Hills National Forest is one of our favorite spots to pitch a tent in the area. At $28 a night, it's incredibly affordable, and it's three miles from Mount Rushmore, six miles from the Needles Highway leading into Custer State Park, and 14 miles from the Crazy Horse Memorial. #blackhills #blackhillsnationalforest #southdakota #horsetheiflake #southdakotacamping

Go dog-friendly and explore @newrivernps in West Virginia. This is one of the most dog-friendly national parks I’ve had the pleasure of exploring. Many of the hikes in New River Gorge lead to rock outcroppings dramatically perched hundreds of feet above the New River. Keeping your dog leashed is mandatory, and the only safe way to go. Trust me. There are no official campgrounds or lodging in New River Gorge National Park, but there are lots of options outside of the park. Check out @onthegorge for affordable dog-friendly cabins that are close to many of the best hiking trails. #almostheaven #almostheavenwv #newrivergorge #newrivergorgebridge #usinterior #goparks #westvirginia #adventuresonthegorge #getoutside #hikingwithdogs

Beautiful Buttermilk Falls State Park in @visitithaca New York. It’s been a couple of years since I explored this gorgeous park, and I’m excited to head back in May. The gorge trail in Buttermilk Falls State Park is a short .62 miles (one way), and there’s a nice campground, and small swimming area at the base of a waterfall. Have you explored this beautiful park? #waterfallwednesday #waterfallhike #ithacany #iloveny #fingerlakes #fingerlakesregion #nystateparks #buttermilkfallsstatepark

We spent the weekend in the @westernwhitemtns exploring restaurants, covered bridges, and snow-covered trails. @franconianotchstatepark was so much fun - it was our first off-season visit, but it won’t be our last! We hiked around the Basin, visited Echo Lake, and rode the Aerial Teamway at @cannonmountain ✨ Turns out, winter is almost as awesome as summer in the White Mountains! #newhampshire #newhampshirelife #newhampshireoutdoors #newhampshire_igers #whitemountains #franconianotch #cannonmountain #cannonmountainaerialtramway #nhstateparks

What do you pack for day hikes, and what’s the thing you would never hike without? Aside from the 10 essentials, I love having a small, point and shoot camera so I can save my phone for emergencies. Also, bug spray is non-negotiable. Bugs love me! I use the itty-bitty spray bottle with all-natural insect repellent from @murphysnaturals which keeps away the critters, and smells really good. Lastly, a bandana! It makes a great backwoods napkin, handkerchief, and do-rag - so useful! #whatsinyourpack #getoutside #hiking #daypack #gooutside #hikinglife

What Could be Better than a Wine and Waterfall Weekend in the Hudson Valley?

Because Minnewaska is only open for day use, we recommend pitching your tent at Robibero Winery in New Palz for the weekend. Let’s explore Minnewaska State Park Preserve and Robibero Winery, both within an hour and a half of New York City! After enjoying Awosting Falls, head back the way you came and hop on the Sunset Carriage Road, and hike another .8 miles to Lake Minnewaska. From the Lake Minnewaska carriage road, you can take either Upper Awosting or the Castle Point carriage Road and hike further up for some really amazing views of the surrounding mountains.

Why You Need to Explore Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park

The old-growth redwoods on the California coast are kings and queens of the forest, and if you’re traveling north through California, your last chance to camp in a primeval forest of ancient redwoods is nine miles east of Crescent City in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Snaking its way through this ancient forest are the crystalline waters of California’s last big wild, free-flowing river-the Smith River, also known by the name Tolowa. ’s wildlife while the river flows by — bald eagles, northern spotted owls, black bear, bobcat, mountain lions, beaver, river otters, black-tailed deer, elk and coyote all make their homes in this locale and frequent the sparkling waters of the Smith River. Fall in Love with America's Most Romantic National Parks
