Glass Fire, Napa Valley 2020

Prior to the Glass Fire, one of Napa Valley’s most prized but private historical collections focusing on wine and mines completely burned in Aetna Springs at Bluford Cellars. Along with the Tedeschi Family, I’ve been helping out anyone that needs help this week – we’ve been doing gasoline deliveries, water deliveries (with two flat beds and 8 totes, at one point we delivered well over 2,000 gallons to one small winery fighting fires coming from behind their property, stopping by friends and small wineries that we mutually know – and any other logistical services. Arguably Spring Mountain sub appellation was hit the worst – driving into numerous properties and up Spring Mountain Road with flames still burning in places – the devastation can only be described as apocalyptic. At last count the following wineries have sustained significant or total damage to either the winery or other related property: Behrens Family Winery, Burgess, Cain, Castello di Amarosa, Dutch Henry, Eeden, Fairwinds, Flying Lady, Hourglass, Hunnicutt, Merus, Schoolhouse, Sherwin Family, Spring Mountain Vineyard, Sterling & Tofanelli.

Quilt & Co

grown fruit and the ‘co’ includes brands made from grapes typically grown outside of the Napa Valley including neighboring Sonoma County, central California and even Oregon. Additional brands represented at the tasting room include Belle Glos (the Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir in 2001 was this brand’s first commercial wine, the brand Belle Glos named in honor of his grandmother and easily identified by the unique red wax shape on the outside of the bottle), Beran (a brand that focuses on Zinfandel), Böen (meaning ‘to farm’ in Norwegian – in honor of his own heritage – producing California grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), Elouan (meaning ‘good light’ – featuring Oregon Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) and Steorra (a sparkling wine). A number of tasting selections are offered including Napa Valley only wines, a flight that includes wines from a diversity of sites primarily from outside of the Napa Valley, higher end wines and even a library tasting featuring some older vintages. This cozy and inviting restaurant opened in 2019 in the very historical Fagiani/Thomas building – named after Nicola Fagiani who bought the building in 1945 and opened a bar, operating as Fagiani’s bar from 1945 until 1974.
