Limited Edition Holiday Gifts

The Aurora Historical Society is having a pre-sale for limited edition Aurora prints. These three matted 8″x10″ prints (matted to 11.14) are rendered from photos in the AHS archives and are being sold as a fundraiser for our society and museum, which is hurting during the pandemic. We will hand deliver these one of a kind prints to Aurora residents in early December for $20 each or ship them anywhere in the USA for $25 each. We have beautiful Aurora notecards (16 cards, $15 for local delivery) and Aurora landmark ornaments ($?) as well.

AHS is 50!

As the Aurora Historical Society celebrates 50 years of service and activities we will be sharing some of our own history. Here is a letter from 1968 outlining the concept of starting a Historical Society. We’ll show you more of these document in the coming weeks, as well as photos of events and the people who made us what we are today!

Thanks to All!

We had television coverage from WEWS News 5 and WOIO 19 and its sister station WUAB 43. Dale, Tim and Dick who sold merchandize and watched over our memorabilia, Katie who despite a busy “kid” schedule supplied the cookies, water and lemonade, and Jeff’s participation as chairman of the Landmark Commission and assistance during the event. Special thanks to Mike who not only purchased supplies for the event, but as President of the GLIA worked tirelessly to, as he put it, “gussy up” the park grounds. We have had a very successful year with the dedication of the Sheldon marker, the Sheldon Family reunion, and the Geauga Lake marker dedication.

Sheldons visit Aurora

In August members of the Sheldon extended family visited Aurora for a couple of days. There was a luncheon at The Atrium; a presentation on Aurora history from John Kudley; a history of The Church in Aurora by Rev. Kevin Horak; a tour of historic sites in Aurora and the Deed house. Mike Thall took these photos and more at various events for them
