Lush mediterranean dreams realised for you in the FrenchRiviera

Your Lush Mediterranean Dreams Realised in the French RivieraThis week, we are bringing you more lush Mediterranean Dreams from the French Riviera Garden Festival: having visited the western section of the Festival des Jardins de la the three exhibits in the Jardin Albert 1er near the Old Town of Nice reflect all the main themes and motives of this year‘s festival.“Above the Immortal Plants“ created by the collective MaGy is a play on many opposites: nature and city, an idyllic garden and the Mediterranean semi-desert known as the garrigue, the vertical plane of the garden and the horizontal of the straw that separates landscaped perfection from the surrounding scrublands, a nostalgic dream of childhood and the harsh reality of the here and now. ” is more of a classical “tableau vivant” whose many elements …… challenge the visitor to imagine a Mediterranean world of tomorrow, a world that includes remains from known domestic landscapes such as the red soil of the western Cote d’Azur as well as plants that are still unfamiliar on the northern shores of the Mediterranean but that are expected to migrate from the south. The Jardins Albert 1er are located near Nice’s downtown Place Massena and provide a great opportunity of combining a visit to the exhibition with a walk around the Port and the Old Town or a stroll down the legendary Promenade des Anglais.

Have fun viewing the second French Riviera Garden Festival on your visit

Two years ago, the French Riviera Garden Festival premiered to considerable national and international acclaim. Over five weeks in the spring, 500,000 visitors attended the 5 exhibition sites, and a press corps of 150 journalists from more than 30 countries generated content (nearly 250 articles and radio / TV programmes) with an “advertising value of more than €2 million“ (the host organizers’ calculation, not mine)

Have you heard of or seen the Rheda Castle in Bielefeld?

The names of the region’s towns and cities may mean little to you, but you are probably familiar with some of the brands and products that come from here: the kitchens and white goods of Miele, frozen pizzas and baking goods made by Dr Oetker, books and TV programmes from one of the many international Bertelsmann affiliates (including Penguin Random House and Fremantle Media), fashion manufactured under the label of Gerry Weber. Maximilian Erbprinz zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg, his English wife Marissa and their three children are related to nearly all European monarchs (including the Queen), and European royals have paid visits to this castle as well as to several of the family’s other homes. To go to Rheda Castle, take the train from Bielefeld (or from Hamm in the opposite direction) to Rheda-Wiedenbrück station and follow the signs to Schloss Rheda. Rheda-Wiedenbrück may – much like Bielefeld, its larger neighbour – not be the most beautiful town in Germany, but it has been around for long enough to guarantee that you are able to find some interesting historic detail wherever you go.

Here's how to discover the street art in the City of London

Discovering street art in the City of London Currently on show is the project’s 2018 edition, the 8th of the series. The remaining 17 works are scattered over a relatively small area within the City of London and can be visited for free and at any time of the day – which is a great offer for art lovers, but equally great for everybody who likes a treasure hunt. Because looking for street art in the City of London’s often confusing warren of back streets and hidden squares can be as much fun as actually looking at them. Here is our advice in navigating the street art in the City of London: develop your own route from artwork to artwork by studying the map (and by improvising as you go along), enjoying the inevitable reiterations that will familiarize you thoroughly with the area.
