Today is National Daughter’s Day, a day to celebrate and cherish our daughters who bring so much love and joy into our lives and I couldn’t think of a better way to show my love for my eldest daughter than to gift her her first piece of heirloom jewelry from @tinytags⁣ ⁣ Family is so important to me, and raising my girls is my greatest joy. When they look back on their childhood, I want them to remember the unique things that made our relationship special. The way I smell, a favorite blouse or a piece of jewelry I always wore that they adore. ⁣ ⁣ One thing I didn’t grow up with but always admired, was hearing my friends talk about the special jewelry they received in stand out moments of their life. The other night, on 9/11, I got to experience Renaissance 🪩 in Vancouver, B.C. 🇨🇦 and I was in awe.⁣ ⁣ I could barely speak as I took in that show & was overwhelmed by the presentation + if you’ve had a chance to see the show, you know what I mean.. that “after show” let down is real.⁣ 🥹 ⁣ I was talking to a friend about the musical giants we grew up listening to. In my house it was Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson - I knew their songs, their music and they were the soundtrack of my childhood but I never got to experience the awe that my family felt listening to them because I never got to see them live and experience a show.⁣ ⁣ 𝘛𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴. ⁣ ⁣ I am so excited to give them the opportunity to see one of the greatest performers of our lifetime and to share the musical experience of a woman whose music has shaped and been the soundtrack of the last 27 years of my life. One of my favorite core memories of summer this year, was when my cousin Jacques and his partner, Kaitlyn came to Seattle to visit for the first time and to meet my family.⁣ ⁣ On his bucket list, was to go whale watching and to see orca whales in their natural habitat. I have lived here my whole life and I’ve never gone whale 🐳 watching or been to the San Juan Islands.⁣ #NotSponsored ⁣ We booked a half day trip with @pugetsoundexpress who guarantees that you will see whales, and the rest was history.⁣ ⁣ As we boarded the ferry ⛴️, I asked the team specifically about orcas and the team member said we’d see whales but she could not guarantee orcas… I quickly looked at Jacques and said, “we’re gonna see orcas,” 😏 and not only did we see orcas we saw a super pod of 5 families, 17 orcas total, including the newest babe orca recently born. ✨ ⁣ It was such an emotional experience that I will never forget and such a special memory to have on the first day of meeting my family.⁣ ⁣ If you want to go whale watching too, I highly recommended @pugetsoundexpress⁣ ⁣ They run tours daily and they have a variety to choose from, from half-day tours to 3-day excursions with departures from Seattle/Edmonds, Port Townsend, and Port Angeles and I learned so much about whales and the unique landscape of the PNW.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴? First Day of School but make it @howard1867 ♥️💙🦬 ⁣ Yesterday school started here in Tacoma, but we were still on the road, hanging out on the East Coast, so instead of porch pictures of my newly 6th grade Wisdom and my little pre-K cutie Courage, we packed up the car and took a field trip over to Howard University. ⁣🏫 ⁣ It was incredible walking the yard yesterday and seeing the fashions, the Divine 9 trees, the buildings named after our heroes and learning the history of one of the greatest HBCUs in the country. ⁣👩🏾‍🏫 ⁣ When I was in high school, it was my dream to go to Howard, but I didn’t have the support, so I couldn’t make it happen, so it was so special to get a tour of the campus with our 2, 4 and 11 year-old daughters and plant the seed for their possible futures.⁣ ⁣ Yesterday was a reminder of why our family is making this big move to try an alternative approach to education, going virtual, so that when opportunity strikes we are ready and so that our girls can learn through those opportunities, through travel and in ways that make the most sense for them. ⁣ ⁣ So a little first day picture of my possible future Bison in another 20 years 😂😂 (Wisdom was TOO cool and hot for a picture) and a family first day of school picture, because we are ALL in, together, as we are with all things we do. ⁣ ⁣ 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹, 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹?
