Highlights
Ending the Hiatus (plus deals at The Hat Shop)

The transition from squeezing life around golf to squeezing golf around life during the summer has been easier (mentally) than I expected. My game hasn’t felt as sharp as I’d like due to less play and practice, but my perspective has improved, so I still enjoy the game as much or more than I did when I could play and practice more. The good news is that Golf is Mental isn’t going anywhere, and there will be lots of content coming as life starts to feel a bit more normal with our new family of four. The arrival of new stock was timely as U. S. Open Week is upon us, so I figured it was appropriate to have a U.S. Open Week SALE to promote the new stock.

Unusually Normal

Despite clubhouses being closed, food and bar services suspended, rakes and ball washers being removed from the golf course, and a myriad of other things that may feel different or weird, the tee sheets have been jam-packed. Whether you tie your golf shoes in the locker room or in the parking lot doesn’t change the way it feels to stand over a three-foot slider. Whether you washed your ball with a ball washer or your own spit doesn’t make a birdie any less thrilling. And just because you can’t fist bump with your buddy or stay for lunch after your round, for the time being, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy their company while strolling down the fairway together, two meters apart.

Diverse golf and culture in Kamloops

The golf courses in Kamloops are varied and utilize their unique location well, perhaps none better than Tobiano Golf Course, one of two golf courses most would consider the headliners of Kamloops. n’t go wrong with a bite at The Black Iron Club and Grill with a stunning view overlooking the course and Kamloops Lake. The lake isn’t a focal point to the same extent Kamloops Lake is at Tobiano, but it is featured on several holes and adds to the peaceful sense of place you get at Talking Rock. Talking Rock makes for a pleasant day-trip if staying in Kamloops, or you also have the option to stay on-site at the beautiful Quaaoot Lodge and Spa for a relaxing stay-and-play experience.

When less is more

However, the way the inside-to-out path is best achieved through a complex series of body movements is debatable and highly unique based on the individual. With a busy and demanding career as an engineer, two-month-old twin boys at home, and running this epic blog and Hat Shop in what little spare time I have, this goal may appear lofty but, what the hell. In years past, I have set process-based goals that included ambitious practice schedules and minimum requirements for entering competitive events to gain valuable experience. Sometimes golf is competitive and score-based, while other times, it may be more about the experience at a particular golf course, or the company you’re keeping.
