COVID-19 Impact: The Public View Of The Pharmaceutical Industry

In an August 2019 Gallup poll of the public’s view on various business sectors, the pharmaceutical industry was ranked dead last out of 25. The poll showed that Americans are more than twice as likely to rate the pharmaceutical industry negatively (58%) as positively (27%), giving it a net-positive score of -31. Pfizer, a household name in the world of pharmaceuticals, also announced plans to develop a vaccine around that same time in collaboration with BioNTech, a German biotech company they had signed a deal with more than a year earlier. Fast forward to September 2020, and a new Gallup poll was released, showing that pharmaceuticals had gone up one slot in the eye of the public – improving modestly as the positive rating increased 7 points to 34%.

Life Sciences Recruitment: Biotech Jobs Beyond The Pandemic

This is especially important because according to a survey conducted by Slack, only 12% of employees want to go back to the office full time, with 72% favoring a hybrid model where they spend a couple of days working from home and the rest in the office. Vaibhav Gujral, a partner at McKinsey & Company, says, “organizations that get it right may emerge from the crisis ahead in the war for talent, with policies that employees prefer, and workplaces that are purpose-designed to be vibrant, foster collaboration, and cultivate productivity across this new way of working.”Upheaval often provides opportunities to step back and re-evaluate things we usually wouldn’t have been able to if we had continued trudging along as usual. Part 2: The Evolution Of The Recruitment Industry

what any generation before us would have considered magic (or, perhaps, a sliver of the most recent generations might have considered science fiction). To refresh the broader perspective, consider that for thousands of years — from the earliest-known recruiters in ancient Egypt until the emergence of printed newspapers in 16th-century Europe — work as a recruiter was near-entirely unchanged. As key examples, consider that in the two decades since 2000:The cost of data storage has fallen by 1000x, enabling the affordable storage of staggeringly vast datasets for training machine learning (ML) algorithms. While the film industry and news media typically portray A.I. as being on the cusp of replicating human intelligence, the reality on the ground is that even the cleverest machines today have extremely narrow specializations, and it may be decades (if ever) before a machine has a learning capacity beyond an infant’s. Returning to our recruitment-industry focus, the transformation is exemplified by GQR’s ML algorithms, which eliminate historical hiring biases while augmenting recruiters’ capacity, enabling them to operate over a hitherto unimaginable scale.
