I DID IT !!! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅ๐ŸŒˆโฃโฃ โฃโฃ I ran a 5K and even better.. at an average elevation of 7,545 feet!!โฃโฃ โฃโฃ I set a goal to get into running when I had my surgery last year (after hating running my whole life), and I can now check it off my list after finishing my first race! โฃโฃ โฃโฃ I went into this with a goal to just finish, and maybe even finish before 45 minutes. With the altitude, I thought my lungs would give up and I would have to run/walk. However, I tried my best to pace myself without going too fast to get out of breath and I RAN THE WHOLE THING Yโ€™ALL! and at a time of 42 minutes! I know itโ€™s just 3.1 miles, but I never gave up and never stopped to walk!! I cried lots of tears after finishing because Iโ€™m just so proud of myself!! ๐Ÿฅนโฃโฃ โฃโฃ also, I canโ€™t forget to mention how freaking awesome my friends are - both the ones that signed up for the 5k with me and for the ones at the finish line cheering me on. Iโ€™m just so sooo grateful for each and every one of them, and for anyone else who has supported me and believed in me throughout this running journey. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿปโฃโฃ โฃโฃ p.s. how cute are the signs Kelly and Jamison made!! ๐Ÿฅฐ

focused on making the absolute MOST out of our summer ๐Ÿ•๏ธ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”๏ธโฃ โฃ last summer (my first summer here in colorado), I spent the entirety of it rehabbing and recovering from my knee surgery. so while I was able to still do some things in the mountains and out with friends, I wasnโ€™t able to do everything I had hoped for.. but thatโ€™s different this year. Iโ€™m more recovered (wouldnโ€™t say fully recovered tho) and more capable to do and accomplish goals I have for myself!โฃ โฃ so hereโ€™s a look into the things I have planned for this summer + goals I have :)โฃ โฃ ๐Ÿ—ป hike my first 14er (a mountain that exceeds in elevation of 14,000 ft above sea level)โฃ ๐ŸŽ’ go on my first overnight backpacking tripโฃ ๐ŸŒฒ visit two more national parks to hit my 2024 goal of visiting 4 new parksโฃ โ›บ๏ธ go on a big ole group camping trip with my besties for my birthday weekend, along with camping throughout the rest of summerโฃ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น hike through the Dolomites!!! eek!!โฃ ๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ paddle board like last summer but this time Iโ€™ll actually be cleared to stand up on the boardโฃ ๐Ÿฅพ explore new parts of Colorado and go on harder hikes than what my knee was able to do last yearโฃ ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ maybe more races?? who knows??โฃ โฃ xoxo,โฃ kelsey and winter ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿปโฃ โฃ โฃ #goldencolorado #outdoorsy #granola #coloradogram #coloradoinstagram

a few things Iโ€™m adding into my routine (almost daily) as I run more often! 1. Tibialis raises - strengthens your tibialis anterior (a popular area where people get shin splits) 2. Double leg heel raise to single leg descend - helps manage your Achilles and how much of the load is going on that tendon, as well helping your ankles become more stable 3. stretching & foam rolling - releases pressure/tightness that could lead to injuries when I did track in middle school, I was notorious for getting shin splints and that just forever deterred me away from running. I grew up thinking that if I were to run, Iโ€™d automatically get them. butโ€ฆ they can go away! fun fact! haha my reminder to yโ€™all - do extra steps in your warm up and in your recovery .. it matters. take care of yourself and do what you can to prevent injury!! #run #runningcommunity #injuryprevention #runnersofinstagram #reelsofinstagram

fun news - last week I signed up for my first race! a 5k in May!! to be honest - I think I was always scared to get into running over the last couple years bc I knew I couldnโ€™t do long distances or run a 6 min mile. however, I wasnโ€™t trying. I avoided running/jogging completely. once I had my surgery and realized how amazing and capable my body was pre-accident, I vowed to myself I would take up running once my body was recovered again. I wanted the challenge.. and I wanted to take full advantage of how incredible my body is, because sometimes we really take movement for granted. and honestly, I hate that it took an injury and a surgery that made me immobile to realize that. so over the last couple months, after I was cleared by my PT, I started running. I may not have run over 3 miles yet or be under a 10 min pace, but who cares. Iโ€™m trying and Iโ€™ll keep trying. Who knows where Iโ€™ll be a year from now or 5 years from now. Small progress is still progress. and something I often have to remind myself when I see other ppl in their running eras is this - no matter your pace, you are a runner. no matter how far youโ€™ve ran, you are a runner. if youโ€™re running, youโ€™re a runner. #runningmotivation #runningcommunity #running #beginnerrunner
