Throwing an Equine-Themed Wine Party

As an avid wine lover, you’re sure to use the rack in your home even after the party, so it may help to look for one that can be incorporated into your already chic home. Incorporate equine prints, racing posters and outstanding tabletop decor into your party space to build atmosphere. Choose glasses and napkins covered with distinctive prints and elegant details that will catch your guests’ eyes and create the right look and feel for your party venue. Pick the Right Look for Yourself, Too When it comes to your fashion choice as the host of the party, try to pick a simple yet subtly stunning outfit.

Using Herd Dynamics in Horse Training

There’s a lot to discuss about herd behavior and how that relates to our relationship with horses, but here I’m going to focus on one: Leadership. But because I took my time in desensitizing him, and took very small steps, I can now whirl a rope in a circle over his head, flash a plastic bag to and fro in front or above him, thrash a lead rope into the dirt all around him, gently circle his legs and back with a rope, and any number of other exercises he doesn’t blink an eye at. It’s true, what I’ve outlined here takes a lot longer, a lot more finesse, and a lot more patience than other means of using herd dynamics to establish leadership. But I’ve found it incredibly rewarding to have a partnership with Dorian, and the other horses I’ve worked with, rather than establishing aggressive dominance that leaves little room for the true individuality of the horse to shine through

Biggest Equestrian Events Around the World

A report by Wave 3 News on last year’s World’s Championship Horse Show reveals that there are over 10,000 people in attendance on average, 2,000 horses competing, and over $1 million in prizes. The exhibitions are elaborate and nothing short of amazing and are held every year in mid-August. Before the excitement of the World’s Championship, Kentuckians can have their fill of horse racing at the Kentucky Derby every year in the first week of May. Every year around mid-April, thoroughbreds compete in this Grade I race in Japan, all aiming to win the ¥150 million ($1.5 million) prize money. The Dubai World Cup is possibly the biggest horse racing event in the world – at least in prizes – and runs from early January to March.

Sustainable Horse Keeping Tips

Instead of multiple strands of electric wire that will increase your power bill, or even vinyl fencing that can harm your horses if they chew on it, opt for wood fencing with one or two strands of electric wires. Whether you place your horses in a pasture with other grazers (such as cattle or sheep) or give them their own natural paddock in which to roam, grazing offers horses a chance to exercise, socialize with one another, and find their own food as they would in the wild. If you don’t have a creek or small pond, install hand-pumps to bring the water up from the water table and into a trough or buckets with zero electricity. Another eco-friendly horse keeping tip is to use a bucket of water to wash your horses, rather than running the hose throughout the bath.
