3 Reasons Parents Should Say NO to Fortnite

I watched with an open mind and while I appreciated the cool factor of the game, I was left feeling uneasy for a few reasons: While the characters in Fortnite are cartoonlike, the weapons in the game look all too real. Obviously I wouldn’t want to have my child talking to random strangers so we wouldn’t use a headset for the game if we allowed our son to play. We are doing our best to navigate a world where 8 year old kids bring iPhones to school (don’t get me started), our kids are no longer learning cursive handwriting at school because this generation will be spending so much time on computers, and parents are undeniably allowing too much screen time for kids instead of encouraging play. It’s not easy to go against the flow, but I encourage every parent to do their own research and make conscious choices for their kids when it comes to technology and games like Fortnite.

The Incredibles 2 is Incredible!

We watched The Incredibles 2 last night and it was worth the wait! The original movie has always been a favourite in our family and we were excited to see this new sequel which is action packed and sports a modern feminist theme with Elastigirl taking a front and centre role in bringing Supers back into the light. My favourite parts might be the scenes with Jack Jack who has more than one interesting superpower. Prepare to laugh out loud and get your tickets now

The Elementary Years: Track Meet Tomorrow

Tomorrow my son is off to his first school district track meet. Dude was very pleased with himself when he came home from school today wearing his red track and field jersey in preparation for tomorrow’s event. It turns out that Grade 3, 4 and 5 boys are very competitive around the track and field program at school. Basically the children have to meet a standard for each event, and then get “picked” to go to the District Track Meet by the teacher coaching that event.

I Feel Pretty is a Must See

The movie tells the story of how Schumer’s character Renee sees herself differently before and after falling off an exercise bike and hitting her head. There’s romance, fun, friendship, career and love in the mix; I thoroughly enjoyed it! but I will say that the message around positive body image and self confidence is inspiring and relatable. And it’s lol hilarious!
