Stocking fillers for our autistic kids and game giveaway

We loved the Totes Emosh card game and are delighted to give one away in time to be added to a stocking this Christmas. Place names are £2.95 each or get five for £14.75.Good old Father Christmas likes to top up the kids wardrobe at this time of year. SockShop's seamless socks are great for kids with sensory difficulties and we love the bamboo ones because they help the kids feel stay warm / cool when they need to and dry as it wicks away moisture. Whether it's pens, pencils, easy to hold highlighters , erasers, sparkle glue sticks and fun shaped sticky notes (we particularly like the idea of thumbs up or hearts for highlighting good things that happen).

An Elf on the Shelf for our autistic kids

So what’s the challenge?Apart from the obvious disaster if our dog ever got hold of Elf on the Shelf, Jane has two older autistic brothers. Jane would be in pieces because the magic will be gone and how will Father Christmas know she has been good now?In addition, Anthony, would be petrified about being seen by the Elf and what the Elf would ‘report back’ to Father Christmas. It’s one of the reason’s we generally applaud good behaviour, but it felt a bit as if the Elf would be watching out more for bad behaviour than delighting in the kids trying their best, being helpful or kind. We could just remove the book that comes with the Elf on the Shelf, but I found I can just remove some of the pages ( contact me if you want details on how to do this) and the book still makes sense, it just misses out the bits we don't want to include.

Even his phone fell silent

But on Remembrance Sunday this year he once again was completely silent - and even put down his mobile phone. Jane loves flowers and she has been very interested in full family participation in Poppy wearing this year. Wearing the Poppy's in the run up to the day itself helped prepare our autistic son for what was going to happen. As my husband and I fell silent and got Jane to remove the sandwich from her mouth, I looked through to the living room to see where Anthony was - it looked like he was on the sofa, probably playing on his phone.
