Coffee Date: Digging My Way Out of a Fitness Funk

I’ve been in kind of a running funk in the sense that I haven’t felt the urge to train since the Carlsbad half marathon (and that feeling actually came on mid-training for that race). In fact, I don’t care about the couple pounds I’ve gained and I’m not beating myself up about missing workouts or not fully completing the programs. I’m going to my first speed work session tonight and I’m a bit nervous! I also need to listen to my body and realize that rest is just as important as training – if I’m feeling run down, I’m promising myself to take rest!

Dear Rowan and Scarlett – 1 Year Old Twins

We celebrated your first birthday with a small birthday party with family at our house on the big day (April 12th, 2019). You seem to understand what we’re saying and give us this look where you bend your head forward and then sheepishly look up with your eyes from under your eye brows, almost like you’re saying “you’re not fooling me, mom. We explained to your sister that we still love her just as much as we did before you girls came long and that we’re a big family who supports each other when we are learning something new. You love being outdoors and used to sit at the doorway before heading outdoors, but now you and your sister just walk right out the door at any chance you get (we joke that you’re just like grandma’s dog lulu who will run straight out the front door anytime it’s left open for a second).

My Caribbean Vacation (And Why It Was Free!)

My coaching business has a lot of awesome perks – complete time flexibility, free apparel & prizes, personal development, discounts on products – but one of the perks that tops the charts is our annual reward trip, call the Beachbody Success Club Trip. In 2019, the trip was a 5 night Caribbean Cruise on the world’s largest luxury cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas. On top of that, my coaching business actually flourished over the last year and my income more than doubled from the previous year AND I earned the cruise fully paid for (including my guest) along with a $1,000 on board credit. I brought my best friend Asia on the trip (my husband is a trooper for staying back with all 3 kids -with some help) and needless to say, there is NO WAY I would have gone on a 5 night girls trip with my best friend one year after having twins had I not earned this.

The NEW Carlsbad 5000 – 2019 Race Report

The Carlsbad 5000 was recently sold by its previous owners Competitor Group (who run the Rock n’ Roll Marathon) and is under new ownership, including fellow Oiselle Volee runner Ashley Gibson and the fabulous Meb Keflezighi. The Carlsbad 5000 is unique in that there are 5 different races for runners depending on their age and gender, spread out over the course of the morning (for example, my wave was for women 39 and under). The first mile was crowded which probably worked to my favor slowing me down a bit because I still went out a little too fast – 7:20, which was my fastest mile of the day. When I finished, I was pretty happy when my Garmin said I had ran a 5K and a mile PR
