I recently watched the New documentary that explores Frida Kahlo’s life through her own words which I greatly enjoyed. Fitting that Facebook Memories shared such a perfect #throwbackphoto taken at the Frida Kahlo Exhibition at New York Botanical Garden. This photo was taken on Media Preview day before the exhibition opened to the public. What I want to point out is that I was not close to the dancers at all. There were rows of people in front of me. I tried nabbing shots by raising my camera above my head but the camera kept registering my movement (I have RA - Rheumatoid Arthritis so my hands are pain ridden and often clumsy) in addition to the movement of the dancers which usually results in a blur. There was a brief moment where people trying to follow the dancers opened a small sliver of space and I was able to angle my DSLR and nab this shot. As soon as the dancing stopped I remained in place and started looking through my shots with excited anticipation, I didn't realize that the two men behind me were peaking over my shoulder. When this shot came up, they both exclaimed 'WOW, NICE SHOT!" in unison. It made my day! The shot I wasn't sure if I even captured got feedback before it was even published! With today being #CincoDeMayo I thought this would be a perfect day to share this particular throwback photo. In watching the documentary where Frida Kahlo's journal entries and personal writings provide insight into her experiences and artistic contributions, we are reminded to do what brings us joy (in her case to paint), seek out laughter, and find people who treat us well. Our time here is short/finite we have to make sure our souls dance while we are here! This picture always reminds me that you have to grab opportunities when they present themselves. The perfect angle/shot is not always easy to come by, and sometimes you get it by changing your angle/perspective. Sometimes you just have to look up! This was the view from my orchestra seats to @shenyunperformingarts the show will be @lincolncenter through April 14th. Part of my birthday celebration. I had been wanting to see this show for years and this year for my birthday it finally came true! #ShenYun (not sponsored!) I learned that each year is a different focus/theme which I did not know.
