DIY Ramadan Charity Jar and Lantern

When you’re a {young} child, Ramadan and Eid are about the lights, and gifts, and cash, and sweets, and paaaaaaaaaaaaarties!!! Oh no, I’m still the same Amnah that loves lights, gifts, cash, sweets, and paaaaaarties. Along with fun, materialistic traditions (which we will eventually ween off of), I want my daughter’s to have a desire to serve and share with their community and those who have less. Pockets, under sofas, on the floor in the car, wherever we found some change, I’d have the girls drop them in.

The holy month of Ramadan is an exciting time for young and old Muslims alike. While adults use the month for increased spiritual connection and growth, children tend to participate in religious centered activities and relish in the social gatherings with friends and family. I’ve created a printable Ramadan Bucket List that includes activities to engage children through the entire month. Add your own personal activities in the empty spaces!

Muslim Prayer Mat Craft

Inspired by a craft a friend had created and posted last year during Ramadan, Rather it was just a little wall hanging to remind them that increased prayer will be a part of our daily schedule during Ramadan (and beyond?). Maysoon’s response focused on her two favorite things in life: her Baba and books. I offered this project at our school’s Eid party last year.

Ramadan With Essential Oils

When Amnah asked me to do a post on Ramadan and essential oils, I couldn’t wait to sit down and write out all of the ways they work together. I like to maximize the detoxifying effects of the fast by adding a couple of drops of coriander to the bottom of my feet each day I’m fasting. * Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to your glass of water. * Make an electrolyte drink; to a large glass of water add a pinch of sea salt, a pinch of sugar, a few drops of your favorite citrus essential oil and stir to combine.
