CRNA vs. NP – How do you Choose? Part I

Do you want the spring salad or the 3 cheese mac ‘n cheese grilled cheese sandwich, with extra cheese? It’s tough to decide when everyone else has already ordered and it feels like the entire restaurant awaits your decision. “Maybe I’ll get the cheese with cheese on the side but roll tires around with my teeth at my annoying friend’s Crossfit gym tomorrow morning

How I became an NP: Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Accordingly, I transferred to Labor and Delivery and realized that I loved women’s health, but in an outpatient setting, probably as a Women’s Health NP working in an OB/GYN clinic. But there were few job opportunities for a Women’s Health NP new grad, and I had some student loans looming, so I took a leap of faith and what happened next was both inadvertent and serendipitous. At the time I didn’t know much about REI nursing (we had a sum total of 2 lectures on it in school) and I didn’t realize that the clinic to which I was applying was the biggest one in the country. I met with the medical director (whom I later realized was a world-renowned fertility doctor revered by most) who asked me why I wanted to work there and what subspecialty within REI I liked the most.

How I Became An NP: Cardiothoracic Surgery

In fact, I, like many aspiring 6 year olds, was certain my fate would rest on my astronaut skills from my vast experience sticking my arms out the car window and demonstrating the effects of lift on my hand (don’t judge, you know you did it too). I then learned to suture from a very well-known first assisting program and started suturing from the beginning as a rightie, and let me tell you, it is WAY easier (imagine cutting with right-handed scissors with your left hand) when you are not fighting the instruments. What would I make sure to teach new grad nurse practitioners so they are successful and avoid the painful bite of the ‘old-school’ providers waiting to eat the new grads alive for their amusement? Skills On Point, LLC is a Chicago-based company offering scheduled and concierge (we travel to your group) expert-led, cost-effective, no-judgment, initial and continuing education in the skills new grad

How I became an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Some NPs will follow the traditional path of starting nursing school immediately after high school and continue their advanced degree shortly after attaining their Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. The impact my nurses made on me when I was a patient was life-changing because shortly after discharge from the hospital I started taking classes and by the next year I was in nursing school. I didn’t even know they existed until I worked side-by-side with one in a Level 1 Trauma ICU during my 3rd year as a bedside nurse. A couple of years later I returned to the classroom for my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) because I was ready to advance my career.
