Teach Outside the Box

We are SO over-the-moon excited to share that our Maker Shop furniture design for Makerspaces is now being sold through our partnership with Cooper Systems in Oklahoma City and is officially available for preorder!! What started out as the perfect vision and original design by my amazing husband, Andy, turned into the perfect all-in-one, interactive storage solution for Makerspaces, STEM Labs, media centers, and classrooms. While a huge variety of engineering, math, and art materials are able to be stored inside the Maker Shop, the design is unique in that children are able to play and learn directly on the unit

So You Want to Start a Makerspace?

My most frequently asked question in emails and blog posts is how to start, schedule, and manage an elementary Makerspace. I’ve had a Maker area for K-2nd Grade in my classroom for the past five years, and for almost two years, my room has served as a full blown Makerspace for two days per week, serving close to 300 early childhood students

Lay the 1 1/2 inch top piece combined with the 1/2 inch wood template piece on top of your board and mark the next piece. From the mark line on the side create a new mark on the top of the wood to mark the center drill hole. Mark the middle of the board at the 10 inch mark and then place the 2×4 piece across the board to mark the sides. Once you fit the pieces together, you will use the 1/2 inch hole saw on the bottom and drill only about a half inch so the bolt and nut can fit into the piece of wood on the bottom of the stand.

I also love incorporating unplugged coding to allow my students to practice basic coding concepts without technology. Yes, this was coding, but it was a hands-on interactive type of coding that my kids and I had been craving. I’ve just finished creating a huge pack of Bot Basics challenges that are perfect for students (and teachers) in K-2nd Grade who are new to Robotics and Coding. You can receive ALL FOUR SETS of Bot Basics and save $4.00 by purchasing the Bot Basics Bundle! Questions or suggestions for Robotics or Coding apps?
