Darkwing Duck Retrospective Part 1: 1991's Darkwing Duck

I can’t believe I need to say this warning, but the opening intro and several scenes of Darkwing Duck have bright, jarring lights. Darkwing Duck episodes seem to have only a few jokes to them. The first is that Darkwing Duck, the character, is constantly getting beat up and abused. Darkwing Duck is right in step with other animated superhero shows, especially Batman: The Animated Series.

Friday Fiction: The Puppet Room

Now, for demonstrating such tremendous qualities, such incredible attributes, such unbelievable resolve, you shall be rewarded! Friends, bloggers, Earthlings, lend me your ears! The time has come, yet again, for you to get your proper dose of excitement, adventure, and intrigue! A horror story already in the middle of happening, let’s jump to the end of an investigation, and the discovery of…”The Puppet Room.”

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier First Impressions

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has garnered quite a reaction online, and I’d heard snippets of opinions regarding the show’s first episode (which is all there is at time of writing). Marvel movies know how to set up engaging and interesting action set pieces and have awesome individual moments within them. This plotline of trying to fix up the family boat is a fine way to make Falcon a more relatable character—plus him being called “Uncle Sam” is clever— It’s a little “wait and see” to find out if The Falcon and The Winter Soldier does more than just be action entertainment.

Vampires In 2021: A Defense of Recent Vampire Fiction

In defending the modern concept of a vampire, you might assume that I’m defending the Twilight series or other trashy books in the paranormal romance genre. In a lot of media (though not all), being a vampire is also a permanent change that has lasting effects on a person’s life. And, finally, since I’m really going to bat for the modern vampire, we have to talk about immortality. Now, there’s plenty that can be done with a character that’s immortal or near-immortal, but vampires buck a lot of conventions.
