5 Bad Work Habits You Need to Drop Immediately

Whether it’s the colleague who takes all credit or the boss who cannot stop bombarding you with calls during weekends – all of us have co-workers, subordinates, and managers whose habits can get rather annoying. Well, nobody is perfect and just like your co-workers, even you are bound to have some habits that might be affecting the others around you

How Black Women Can Overcome The Wage Gap

From managing an ice cream shop at the age of 19, until now in my current role as the owner of my own financial coaching and consulting company, I’ve learned a lot about work, money, and economic slavery and freedom. As an intelligent, talented, and brilliant Black woman, on my often challenging yet insightful life’s journey, I came to realize – both statistically and personally – that Black people (women especially) are almost the lowest paid group in America (just ahead of Hispanics). When I have felt especially disheartened about the economic inequality pervasive in this society and needed a huge boost of encouragement, recalling Black women like Madam C. J. Walker has motivated me to move forward even more powerfully. While we ultimately will not be able to change the unequal system, what we can change is how we operate within it – by reclaiming our individual financial power and making sure our money (however disproportionate) works maximally for us, both now, and in the future.

Why You Didn’t Get a Call Back: Three Common Résumé Mistakes and How to Conquer Them

With that being said, it is vital to make sure that you have a solid understanding of the opportunity that you are applying for (industry, level of experience, location, requirements) while keeping a goal in mind when sending out your résumé. For example, if working at a bank for two years as an associate, you have decreased costs for the company by 5% by implemented a new automated process across your department, you can deduce a few pointers from here. As a certified professional résumé writer, all too often I will come across documents that could definitely use attune-formatting-wise (that’s my job, anyways! ). Ensure that your margins are not too wide or narrow, your headings are all formatted in the same fashion (if one is bolded and centered, the others need to be, as well), and ensure that there is enough “white space” between the different parts of the résumé to avoid a jumbled look.

Black Career Woman Spotlight: Jacqueline Twillie

Founder and President of ZeroGap Consultants, Professional Training and Development in Dallas, TX Information gathering is the consistent strategy that I’ve used throughout my career to reach each level of success. There can be information overload that’s the tricky part of using information gathering as a strategy but the second and most important element of using this strategy is to take consistent action. I’ve used the information that I’ve gathered to take action on various business opportunities. When there isn’t enough time in the day or when life gets in the way to make time to do one thing each day that will get her closer to that level.
