Highlights
My Favorite Plant This Week

Skip to main content This is a spectacular native shrub that grows in woodland areas from California up to British Columbia west of the Cascades. Ribes sanguineum (better known as Red Flowering Currant or Winter Currant)  begins to bloom late March to early April and stays in bloom for up to a month

The Lavender of Sequim

Skip to main content The Lavender of Sequim: America's Provence by Bonnie Louise Gillis, published by Books Out Of The Blue, 2019. Since moving here, I have visited tulip farms, rose, lily, iris and peony gardens but I have yet to see a lavender farm although I have seen signs for them

A beautiful day in the garden

And I really did not think that Camellia 'Nuccio Bella Rossa' has grown that much but when comparing to it last year's photo, it is at least twice the size. Other early bloomers -And, last but not least, the ironclad little Primroses. I generally use an organic granular fertilizer (like Lilly Miller or E.B. The grass (what little there is left) needs cutting and fertilizing.

Garden Blogger's Bloom Day for March

We had the coldest February in 30 years and a few snowfalls although nothing major on that front and certainly not matching the 11 inches we got the second winter we were here. Things are warming up fast and next week promises to see temperatures reaching near the 70 mark. The little Iris reticulata is blooming and another patch of it bloomed much earlier and got trampled by snow and ice. I posted this photo of the pretty yellow iris that is blooming by the entrance to the driveway - May Dreams Gardens .
