Highlights
spring for these refreshing whites!

Oh yes, my grapefriends, it’s finally here! Today is officially spring, so let’s get some lively, fresh wines in your glass to celebrate. Super lovely white florals and honeydew with a smooth finish, I was completely shocked it was under $15! * Villa Maria Bubbly Sauvignon Blanc 2018: Haven’t had many sparkling Sauvignon Blancs, but this one was a surprisingly refreshing green apple and grapefruit fizz.

meursault madness

You get to watch games all day long, and this March 18 and 19 you won’t even have to try to hide it at work since we But once you do decide to pop a cork, the strategy is to choose a lighter-side bottle that you can sip for a long time. The Burgundy region of Meursault is known for its full-bodied, intense Chardonnay, but I recently had one of their red wine. Apparently only 1% of the vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, and as much as the Chardonnay there is incredible this Domaine Matrot Meursault Rouge ($29.99) was absolutely delicious.

champagne fridays: march

This is still happening because we need to still remember to celebrate the small things – like getting through another pandemic week! This month I concentrated on ones made by women, because the number of female chef de caves are also still tragically low, but the ones in place are incredible and rising: Born in Reims, Chef de Cave Caroline Latrive is another rare female cellar master in Champagne, having led the house since 2011. She creates fresh, elegant and low dosage wines like their Brut Majeur, about $40.

4 fantastic wines for women’s day

With vines from the 12th century, she creates this fresh, herbal Garnacha with notes of canned black olives and milk chocolate over wild black cherry. After he passed away, Cinzia continued the evolution and her Bolgheri wines are excellent, like this peppery black currant Rosso blend (Merlot 40%, Cabernet Franc 20%, Cabernet Sauvignon 20%, Syrah 20%). * Cambria Estate Winery, Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir: Cambria is owned by women and the wines are made by women. They’re having virtual events this month to seek out nominations for inspiring women leaders, donating $1 to environmental non-profit SeaTrees for every nomination.
