I live in the hop capital of the world, Yakima, Washington with my wife and one year old daughter. Its storied brewing heritage dates back to the 1850s when German farmers settled in the area, bringing their thirst with them. Today, this Old World pedigree is blended with a vibrant beer scene and creative culinary culture. New brewpubs and breweries are sprouting up that embrace the German brewing tradition, but are branching out with some modern creations.

Essie explored the textures of the rocks and wildflowers as Nicole and I cracked into the first of our test subjects. The next beer out of the pack was Ready, Set, Gose from Uinta Brewing out of Salt Lake City, Utah. The gose (pronounced goh-zuh) style is a low alcohol beer brewed with sea salt and coriander that has seen a recent resurgence. Tart and refreshing, gose style beers were originally consumed by field workers and farmers to slake their thirst in the heat of the day.
