My name is Katie and you may have seen me in numerous media outlets and even on the cover of magazines for my 150 lb weight loss. I decided to get healthy after I temporarily lost my vision due to a medical condition called Optic Neuritis. I originally created Huff 'n Puff to Buff 'n Tough to document my journey and life with losing weight. Now it has turned into a blog to not only continue documenting and sharing my journey and life with health and fitness, but now being an influencer and fit mom navigating life and trying to live my best life with my second chance!

I create all sorts of content from health and fitness to family, fashion, beauty, food and more. I have had the pleasure of not only working with numerous brands, but also being an ambassador for brands. I've worked with NOW Foods, Polar, Mizuno, Pearl Izumi, Sun Basket, Radio Flyer, Pampers, Enfamil, U By Kotex, Adidas and many more.

I haven’t had one symptom or pain free day for about 2 months now and still counting. Today I went to the doctor for the second time—in person—since covid happened. I went in for 3 of my issues going on... chest pain/shortness of breath, a throbbing pain in the same spot in the back of my neck during workouts and stinging upper abdominal pain that feels like a fluid filled like sac moving around and while all of this is happening... I’ve had a loss of appetite for 2 weeks now and I’ve had many nights where I had to skip dinner because I just couldn’t eat with the pain and wasn’t hungry. I’ve been dealing with this while also dealing with flare ups of all my other neurological (autoimmune suspect) issues. I’ve been so tired that I can barely stay up during the day anymore. Something isn’t right. It hasn’t been for 8-9 years, but these newer symptoms scare me. I’m proud of myself for finally getting back out there to try and get the help that I need, but only to be turned away because I was 5 minutes late and it was towards the end of the day. After some back and forth with the receptionist and doctor... they viewed it as a possible emergency because of my chest pain and thought I should be seen but still turned me away and rescheduled for 2 weeks later. This is the type of shit that pisses me off. And part of the reason why I don’t like or trust doctors. They never have their patients best interests at heart and those few doctors that do... are rare. I’m frustrated and I’m tired. I’ve been ok with handling the facts that I have to deal with the unknown and have been for 8 years, but as newer symptoms arise and others get worse... I’ve been struggling these past 1-2 years. These past 6 months have been tiring and I’m just trying to find new ways to cope with it all. My medical shit has tried to steal a lot from me over the years, but I continue to fight for good moments because I try not to let it overrun my life. But quality of life these past 6 months—medically—haven’t been great. I have had more bad days than good and can count the good days I’ve had for the past 6 months on two hands—less than 10. Regardless, I am always grateful for my life and body.

This speaks to my soul because it’s so true!! This has been my 2021 🤣 and I’m just rolling with it 🤷🏽‍♀️ ⋆ ⋆ #mentalhealth #wefighttogether #bpd #depression #anxiety #ptsd #bestlife

Get used to falling off. It’s going to happen. You can’t avoid it. But whether you fall off for a day, a week, a month or even a year... 1 time, 10 times, 20+ times... doesn’t matter... you better get back up and keep going. Life will trip us up, spin us around, chew us up and spit us back out. But in the end it’s always about how you come back stronger each time no matter how much of life’s baggage you are carrying. ⋆ ⋆ #transformationtuesday #halftheirsize #aerialistsofig #cirque #ebonyfitness #mentalhealth

What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation. ~Glenn Close • • #mentalhealth #mentalillness #blackmentalhealthmatters #bpd #ptsd #anxiety #depression #wefighttogether #💚 #transformation #halftheirsize #bombshellbecause #yogawheel

➡️Mental Health Check⬅️ Today’s mood. Anybody else? I’m just grateful that hubby got to come home to me safe last night, but mentally... I’m still a mess. #blackmentalhealthmatters #blacklivesmatter #mentalillness #bpd #depression #ptsd #anxiety #wefighttogether #breakthestigma

My life 🤦🏽‍♀️ but I’ve learned to live with it 😜🙃 Mental illness has become a part of who I am. It is no longer just something I deal with and hasn’t been for a long time. It just took me all my life to accept it and to be open about it without feeling any shame 💚

Happy Easter 🐰🐣 #easter2021

When you think about your fitness/weight loss/health journey... what is it that you envision? What is it that you want to experience along your journey? From the time I was a young teen, all the way up to my adult years... I envisioned what I wanted my journey to be and thought it would be. What started out as unrealistic expectations, goals and hopes as a teen slowly altered over time to realistic expectations, goals and hopes as an adult in my late twenties. As a teen, I envisioned fast and long lasting weight loss results, strict and temporary healthy eating, small portions and yo-yo/crash diets. Temporary active lifestyle, pure torture, but cute clothes, bangin tight body and confidence. An overall short road and journey. Results: Even more depression, self esteem issues, eating disorder and tons of frustration and self hatred. As if I wasn’t dealing with enough of that before. As an adult, I envisioned a very long road for weight loss and an even longer road for maintenance. Everything from small attainable goals to huge and crazy, but fun goals that add even more fuel to the fire. I envisioned being knowledgeable about weight loss and fitness. Doing fitness shows, pole and aerial, running races and more. Lifestyle changes and habits that will last. A dramatic body transformation. Cute clothes and more confidence. Results: A massive 150 lb weight loss. A smaller body with excess skin weighing it down, more confidence, happiness, good health {other conditions put aside}, wearing cute clothes. Knowledge in health and fitness. Crushing goals both small and huge. Healthy habits and lifestyle, discipline and so much more that I never even saw coming for me and SO MUCH MORE to be experienced 💖 It’s like night and day, isn’t it... I envisioned very different things and got very different outcomes. When I get asked, “where to start with my own journey?”. Your very first step... to envision what you want it to be and what you think it’ll be and only then can you adjust any unrealistic expectations that you’ve had to continue moving forward. Oh, and I totally got @people vibes from this photo! Swipe to see why! I swear, I wasn't even trying! It just happened!

I have to go cry now. 😭 beautiful and constant reminder’s that I can always succeed at weathering the storm with the right kind of help. He’s getting big isn’t he?! But he still seems so little to me. 😩 my baby boy 💙 ❣️Swipe❣️ I can’t believe it’s already been 2 years since this @people article came out.

Always Eat After 7 PM Challenge

This post is sponsored by, “Always Eat After 7 PM”. We are finally on the last post and week of this series for the Always Eat After 7 PM challenge with Joel Marion. You can eat as late as you want and even have carbs as late as you want as long as your calories are in check. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day.

The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good. If you look back on my first post talking about wanting to have more energy ( HERE ), you will see that having extra energy was one of my goals. I can most certainly say that I've been having more energy and that is extremely helpful when you have multiple conditions that cause fatigue more often than you'd like to admit.

Always Eat After 7 PM Challenge Update

While continuing to read the book, I found other benefits for health from this weight loss method that he describes as the three phase plan for weight loss: “Avoiding carbohydrates and restricting calories later in the day can have an adverse effect on your thyroid hormones, which play a major role in metabolism. When the thyroid fails to secrete enough of the hormones that control metabolism, this can trigger symptoms like fatigue, depression, weight gain, thinning hair, and dry skin.” “Intermittent fasting really shines when it comes to improving the hormones that directly affect your hunger, blood sugar, and metabolism. After 7 PM also debunks myths to popular diets and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night versus the advice of eating majority of your calories in the beginning of your day to midday.

Always Eat After 7 PM Challenge

I have been putting my own nutrition plans together since I started my weight loss journey 7 years ago in 2013. The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat and when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals and The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good. 12 lbs down in the first 2 weeks, 46 lbs after 16 weeks and more energy.“Research shows that the average person’s metabolic rate is no different during sleep than during the day. Whether it is 8 am or 8 pm, you use food for energy the same way.”Even after making it back to my pre-baby weight within the first year, my body is still different as in I am storing more fat in other places--hello hips--than I did before getting pregnant with my son and 2nd child.
