gift guide for fitness-loving moms

If you ask most moms of young kids who are "working on their fitness," there is very little time or money to spend on their health habit. Of course as moms we make due with what we have, but it often means skimping on equipment we could use or washing and rewearing the same workout clothes multiple times a week

surviving the first week postpartum

Many go out of their way to make sure a pregnant woman doesn't strain herself physically, that's she's eating enough, and eating the right foods. I'm also nursing my baby, which comes with its own special set of challenges and pain, from learning along with your baby how to get a proper latch, to milk coming in and engorgement. In addition, postpartum depression or baby blues can make it even more challenging for some women, so I don't know that there's necessarily a set of rules or advice we can give to all women for a great postpartum experience, because everyone's situation is different. Follow your doctor's advice and guidelines for rest - don't try to load a bookshelf onto a cart at Walmart like I did after my second baby, for example.

what to pack in your hospital bag for a c-section

Don't forget a brush, hair ties, and a cute headband/head wrap to keep your hair out of your face. Of course you'll want your phone with you for pictures, contacting friends and family, and as a distraction, since you'll be spending hours in a hospital bed, and your baby will sleep a lot! Reusable Water Bottle- the hospital will provide one, but it's nice to have your own on hand in case you're really thirsty and a nurse can't get to you right away. We bring 2 outfits - one in newborn size, and one in 0-3 month size, since you don't know what will fit- for bringing the baby home.

friday favorites #13

I'm working double time to get grading and lesson planning in place for school, so there are no loose ends to tie up once the baby is born. However, the kids and I are now officially on Easter break, so I've got a lot to check off my to-do list - some fun, others not quite as fun. Besides the papers to grade, there are a few things to do yet to prepare for baby's arrival at home, some blog posts to have in the queue, and some quality time to be spent with my family. Now let's "hop" (hop...because Easter is coming up...) into the good stuff!
