16 Travel Disaster Books Guaranteed to Make You Thrilled Youโ€™re Stuck at Home

Trying to recover from the trauma of their Cape Town home invasion, this unraveling couple gives an affordable home swap in Paris a try. So you want to be a travel writer and score a luxury cruise press trip? With a titillating Eyes Wide Shut mood, this original in travel disaster books has been a cautionary tale for seekers since 1965. And if youโ€™re ready to start planning, use these tips to re-calibrate your travel goals from the lessons weโ€™ve learned from a pandemic.

Royal Ascot: An American's Guide to Britain's Great Horse Race

Queen Elizabeth II has anchored this race for decades, attending every day of the five day race. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and her daughter Anne, Princess Royal How to see the Royal Family One of the most exciting aspects of the Royal Ascot is the presence of Britainโ€™s Royal Family, especially the daily presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. For example, if you place a bet on Not a Cow at 10-1 in the US (you win 10 dollars for every one you bet), but Not a Cowโ€™s odds fall to 2-1 by the time the race starts, you get 2 dollars. For any bets, know your horseโ€™s number, the race number, whether you want to pick the horse to win, place (2nd) or show (3rd), and how much you want on the bet.

7 Travel Goals if You Don't Take Travel for Granted

Iโ€™m talking books about culture and history, learning what makes a place unique. The right Instagram feedโ€“ nothing against influencers with beautiful aesthetics, but for this goal we need to find IG feeds that focus on place. One way to connect to a place is to support the local economy and explore neighborhoods that exist outside of tourist bubbles. But a lot of times, Iโ€™m just considering a place because everyone else is going, because everyone raves about it.

What Costa Rica Taught Me About Fear โ€“ Travel Your Bucket

We could see Playa Brasilito clearly, but per Nat Geoโ€™s map there was a road south to Playa Conchal that simply did not exist. The third time I got serious and put in some real strokes, getting my feet back down on the right side of the beach floor drop-off with a swimsuit full of sand. Instead of flipping and laughing and timing the pull right and swimming to the beach, I could have drowned or been pulled into some new waters and eaten. Take these tips on getting a good deal on airfare, earning and using points, finding upgrades, finding the right hotel or scoring good hotel deals in expensive places/events.

What a weird time. Grief isn't just for death and I went through the stages hard. Anger and denial took up Feb thru mid March. A brief round of go get 'em productiveness, a few depressive days, and some bizarre bargaining. Now- calm. It is what it is. It will change when it changes. But I am taking notice of the everyday things I appreciate. And the hand wringing over when I get to travel next is gone. Right now, with this alphabet adventure trend, I get the chance to look back and smile. I understand better what I had then. But for now, nowhere to go but forward into the unknown. ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒโœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ #hanginthere #reflection #lifequotes #lifequotestagram #traveltuesday #quarantineandchill #mindfulness #traveladdict #wisewords

Alphabet Adventures โ€ข I had a friend ask me the other night how I was managing life without traveling. The honest answer: I wasn't sure, but I really am fine. Slowing down, in so many ways, feels right. At least for now. But that's a story for another time. Instead, this is about reflecting on travels and the newly found #alphabetadventures trend. So here's mine, international edition. A is for Australian Base Camp that is not at all in Australia. A is for the Annapurnas, part of the Himalayas of Nepal and some of the top ten highest mountains in the world. A is also for amazing, as in amazing I dragged my out-of-shape ass up to the Australian Base Camp of the Annapurnas. A is for achievement, rampant, ecstatic, heart-soaring achievement. A is for authentic as in the smile in this picture. Here's to all our adventures, far and near. Stay safe everyone. (Australian Base Camp, near Pokhara, Nepal. I want a hug from my parents. We're huggers and it's a strange thing not to do this as we say goodbye. But I love them too much to (and frankly, I'm not sure they'd let me.) What we can do is drink some Guinness and eat some reubens 6 feet apart on the driveway: a modern dinner party. My neighborhood has a lot of socially distanced activity, and it felt good to be connected again. Because even this introvert needs other faces. Check the link in profile for other tips on mental wellness while we flatten the curve. COMING UP: a fun look at a woman taking her family around the world. From her kitchen. And the blog is getting ready to travel deeper on destinations whose dramatic histories put reality TV to shame. My grief is moving to acceptance. Finally. ~ This quote from @jordanpickellcounselling struck me. As a fellow therapist I know this isn't what she meant when she wrote it (more on that later), but it has new meaning for me now. ~ I've been radio silence on Insta for awhile. Took over as our outpatient clinical director, took a fabulous writers' bootcamp class, and I've been pitching and WRITING. Even broke into some new publications. Exciting stuff. The rest went on hold. ~ The grief, you say? Writing is one way I cope and thrive. Travel is the other: nearest and dearest. Next week I'm supposed to be in Charleston, and then the Masters and Savannah. Obviously not happening. And feeling stuck is bringing out some old baggage I haven't seen in awhile and never want to take with me. So I'm grieving my temporary loss of my travel therapy. And that's ok. ~ But I'm also focusing on other things, new things, core things. And that's feeling pretty damn good. ~ As my momma's saying, stay distant, stay safe, stay healthy. We can do this. See link in bio for my guide with @matadornetwork for my core things. And check out @jordanpickellcounselling for some ferociously healing wisdom. ~ The road will wait to meet us, my friends. ๐Ÿ’œ #quarantinelife #mentalhealthawareness #mentalwellness #stayinghome #travelwriter #socialdistancing2020 #mytherapy #travellove #imisstravelling #inittogether #traveler #staysafe #oktobesad

Be like the squirrel. Stay home, but get yourself some fresh air. Science tells us that even 10 minutes of physical activity and some vitamin D does wonders for mental health. Take a socially distanced walk or toss up the shades. We can do this. Check out link in profile for a my @matadornetwork guide as a therapist on boosting your mental health in social distancing. Where are you headed? โž– Bummer, it turns out the Dalai Lama probably didn't say this one (along with a slew of other sayings). For us wanderlusters it was nice to be validated by such a venerable man, but the quote still stands on wise merit. Not just to go somewhere, but somewhere we've never been. To push ourselves out of our routines and ruts. And that's my ultimate collection of resolutions: try to break old patterns with new habits. And of course somewhere new: Charleston. Savannah. Maybe Paris ๐Ÿคž and who knows? How do YOU decide where to go and where are you headed in 2020? #wanderlusters #bucketlist #resolutions #resolutions2020 #travelquotestoliveby #newdestinations #wheretogonext #travelislife #neverstoptraveling #letsgoeverywhere #travelplanning #newyeartravel

January is always a bizarre shadow time, stuck in this borderland of what just happened and what you hope will happen next. Past the holidays and for many of us we're locked in winter doldrums. No wonder I'm scrolling Hopper for cheap flights and nailing down details for warmer climates. No wonder he's pouring over horse racing in Florida and dreaming of Derby. Our challenge is to be present and live in the now. And get off our phones more....eff those resolutions, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚ But on a lighter note, I'm back in action๐Ÿ˜‰ #blackandwhitephotography #mindfulness #shadows #wanderlusting #travelbug #mondayblues #currentmood #bepresent #travelsoul #travelyourbucket

My dubious mountain man. Someone didn't realize that Glacier National Park is still cold in late July but he was a good sport anyway. They're never his idea, but he is always game for my adventures. And he'll never admit it because it goes against his self-image, but he would be a great nature boy wild man. Oh the things we've learned about each other through travel! ๐Ÿ˜‰ #thosecalvestho @travendly #TravelwithTravendly #travelphotography #mountains #glaciernationalpark #glaciernps #couplestravel #coupleswhohike #travelmore #mytravelgram #mytravelbuddy #mountainpic #picoftheday #travelyourbucket #10yearsandcounting

"In your presence there is fullness of joy." It's no wonder I hike, a pretty vulnerable state, with some of my favorite people. They have shown me paths in life. And made me full of joy. Winter is coming (or here for some of you.) The soles of my hiking shoes fell off and had to be tied on. We lost the trail in the leaves. My slow climb was an exercise in her patience. And it was the most memorable climb with one of my greatest friends. We came to New Hampshire to recharge and restore and somehow after 22 years of friendship we were still learning new things about each other.
