Music Creates Us

My school career did not excel from here, and I still hadn’t acknowledged my songwriting as the answer to my suffering. I started to spend my homeschooled days writing songs on my piano and guitar, like I used to do after an emotionally exhausting day at school. It wasn’t until my current producer, Alek Fin, was introduced to my production deal that I could see a way out. I remember him calling me one day and breaking the news that he wouldn’t be a part of my deal anymore.

One of our favorites from last month’s Women’s History highlights, Camille Trust, has released a new single, “Lavender. True to her comments in our interview with the inspiring artist last month, Trust has created a song that shows both sides of female empowerment. But then Trust switches it up, with slightly bolder sounds and the truth that women can and should do all those sexy things for their own selves. It’s said rather subtly, but the way the background vocals rise with Trust’s own building riff, the meaning and power of the song comes to life.

At a Sofar Sounds show for International Women’s Day, we saw the very talented soul/pop singer, Camille Trust. The New York City-based artist released her debut EP, No Other Way, in May 2018, and recently dropped her latest track and music video “Scandalous. We spoke to Trust about her involvement with Sofar Sounds, her musical and style inspirations, and of course, the importance of womanhood. What I love about Sofar is the community that has been created around a general love for music.
