'Tomintoul '15' - With a Peaty Tang' Bottled at 40% Cask Type: American oak ex-bourbon casks. This Speyside single peated malt scotch whisky is aged for 15 years in hand-picked American oak ex-bourbon casks. Tomintoul blends both peated and unpeated spirit to give the whisky it's 'Peaty Tang' name. Nose. Floral with Vanilla, Honey and Peat. Palate. Sweet Malt, Earthy Peat and Fruit. Finish. Spices, Lemon, Oak and Toffee. This one started with freshly picked flowers, a soothing fragrance that provided a floral aroma. Next, creamy vanilla, which gave a silky soft and very inviting smell to the whisky. Following this, you get very sweet and luscious honey. Also included on the nose was a glimmer of peat; a light and musty smell that added significant interest moving forward. On the palate, flavourings of sweet malt established base notes. Immediately next, more of the peat influence is present, giving notes of earthy peat this time, it's a lot more prominent on the palate than the nose though. Additionally, a juicy green apple note comes through and provided a memorable fruity flavour. The finish is medium and spicy with ginger and clove being the main flavours generating a strong winter spiciness. Now, you receive a lemon lift, which is slightly tart, but a welcomed and pleasing accessory to the whisky. Next, a wood-like flavour such as oak is present. The tasting finished with a very tasty toffee note that added balance. "A unique whisky with a lot to offer. For a nice easy drinking and delicious Speyside whisky with a twist, you must check this one out!" Have you tried this one yet? Let me know in the comments below. Scoop of the Day Compass Box 'Peat Monster Arcana' Bottled at 46% Without colouring or chill-filtration. Cask Type: French oak. In continuing to honour its 20th anniversary year, @compassboxwhiskyco announces the release of Peat Monster Arcana this month, their official birthday month. Peat Monster Arcana is the result of a long-running experiment into the secrets and mysteries of oak and smoke. A cask strength version of The Peat Monster was further matured in three French oak custom casks for more than two years; it was then blended with malt whiskies from the Talisker, Miltonduff and Ardbeg Distilleries in order to complement the richly spicy and more subtly smoky profile that developed. Tasting notes from the distiller: Chocolate, cinnamon, and boat tar appear on the nose while the palate is fruity and compellingly waxy. A dry smoky presence steadily builds. ABV and Price: 46% ABV; 750ml $95; 70cl £75.00; 8,328 bottles produced globally, including the UK. PC @compassboxwhiskyco 📸 What do you think of this new release? Let me know in the comments below. TPWC - 'Scotch & Tattoos' Bottled at: 53.4% Cask Type: Bourbon hogshead. Age: 13 Years Old. Distillery: Caol Ila My tasting notes 📝 Nose. Fruit, Vanilla, Peat and Spice. Palate. Liquorice, Rosemary and Nuts. Finish. Medicinal with Green Apple, Ash and Black Pepper. Plenty of comforting fruit such as apple and pear builds sufficient interest and structure. Now, an ambrosial vanilla note makes a big announcement. Then a distinct Islay peat scent provides notes of earth and mild smoke. Ultimately, improving the aroma, even more, cinnamon. The cinnamon instils a top layer of spiciness. There's a variety of flavours on the palate. A big hit of liquorice gives a bitter yet salty flavour. Following that a sharp and influential rosemary note adds ample herb like flavourings. Then Brazil nuts leave a lasting impression, by supplying a rich and mild nut flavour. The medium-bodied finish gives medicinal tastes and feels first, then there's a surge of fruit. Fresh green apple to be exact. Additionally, a burnt wood and ash like flavour is a very welcomed addition that expands and balances the palate. There's more spiciness now, cracked black pepper is what completed this one. My opinion 🗣🥃 "A great whisky, which submits well known Islay character throughout. It's big and bold flavours keep you coming back for more. One not to be missed!" Teeling 'Single Malt' Bottled at 46% NCFiltered and Natural Color Cask Type: ex-Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon. This @teeling_whiskey is made with 100% malt whiskeys. A selection of five wine cask finished whiskeys was used for this release, including Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon. My tasting notes 📝 Nose. Fruity with Vanilla, Spice and Nuts. Palate. Shortbread, Ginger, Mango and Lime Finish. Medium with Clove, Pear and Honey. Brimming with fruit, this Teeling Single Malt provides refreshing, crisp and delicious tropical notes such as Grapefruit and Pineapple. Next, a portion of seductive vanilla emerges which gives off a heavenly aroma. A lot of cinnamon spice provides a relaxing and fragrant smell. Ultimately a delicate walnut note offers an earthy and slightly citrusy aroma. Desirable shortbread notes introduce a lot of buttery, rich sweet sugar flavours to the whiskey. Additional spice from ginger adds excitement and warmth. Next, there's a tartness and a slightly floral flavour of ripe mango. After time, notes of zingy lime zest begin to appear and enhance the character of the whiskey. The medium finish has a lot more spice; clove spice to be exact. There's also some fresh and clean fruit notes coming through from pear that offer in sweet and juicy notes. An intensely rich and buttery honey flavor completed the tasting. My opinion 🗣🥃 "A very accessible Irish Single Malt whiskey. It's complex, robust and definitely one worth checking out! I love it!" What are your thoughts on this one from @teeling_whiskey ? Hyde 'No.9 ‘Iberian Cask' - Tawny Port Cask Finish' Bottled at 43% NCF and Triple Distilled. Cask Types: Ex-Bourbon and Tawny Port. My tasting notes; Nose. Fruit, Cinnamon, Vanilla and Honey. Palate. Citrus, Malt, Biscuit and Ginger. Finish. Red Grape, Nutmeg and Raisin. Blackberries illustrate the Tawny Port aspect of this whiskey and additional apple notes give the whiskey a very juicy and fruity start. Then some bourbon cask influenced vanilla adds an ambrosial scent to the whiskey. Then a developing honey sweetness; a flavorful aroma that is sweet but pungent in smell. Citrus is the first flavour found and transmits a fresh and clean lemony flavour. Next, a maltiness donates an inviting and memorable taste to the whisky. Now, a subtle but great biscuit note is dispatched before a large note of ginger arises; a warm and flavorful note that contributes a hot and spicy expansion to the palate. The finish has an embellished mouthfeel and a long lingering flavour. A concentrated red grape flavour adds sufficient interest. Some warm and delightfully sweet nutmeg flavours subtly enrich the finish. Ultimately, a raisin flavour contributes to the flavour of the whiskey. My opinion; "Plenty of fruit and spices, integrate well to bolster the standard Hyde flavour profile sufficiently. A great expression. Check it out if you can!" Let me know your thoughts on this new expression from @hyde_irish_whiskey in the comments below. Cheers 🥃🙏
