Empowering women to chase joy - not perfection. 📍MD Wife-Mom-Career Coach-Biochemist 1/3 of @sciencefortheculture Inquiries: hello@aliciacheekphd.com
I can’t be the only one 🤣🤣 especially when y’all share grocery hauls! I be like “oh yeah, I’ve been meaning to try that… lemme see if Antoine is in the check out line yet…” 😅
Let’s get these resumes together! 1️⃣ Full Address - chiiile, don’t just give out your full home address to anyone 😅 City, State, and Zip is enough! 2️⃣ Objective - If I’m looking at your resume, I know that your objective is to get a job. We all know that - you don’t need to include it on your resume. Instead, write a brief Professional Summary that tells readers what you do, how long you’ve been doing it, and your highest achievements/most important job-related skills. 3️⃣ “References Available Upon Request” - once again… we know! If they want your references, they know to ask you. No need to put it on your resume. 4️⃣ Old/Irrelevant Jobs - there’s no hard & fast rule, but anything over 10 years old should be removed. There are definitely exceptions especially if you’re applying for a management level role or higher. Also, if you used to work at the bank but you’re a teacher now, you can leave your banking experience off of your teaching resume. Was this helpful? What other resume related questions do you have? Let me know!
This post has NO PURPOSE other than to remind myself that I know how to wear things other than lounge wear & business casual 😅 Am I the only one who doesn’t really dress up much? I feel like I almost never wear “real clothes” anymore. I don’t even know when was the last time I bought clothes that weren’t for work, working out, or lounging 😅
The best part about me doing these Black mama videos is that I AM SHE 🤣 and I got it from my mama who got it from HER mama. I got my moms attitude for REAL. Poor Dez 😅 Do you see any qualities from your mom in you? Do you say all the same things? Let me know in the comments!
I’m a true homebody! I’m the queen of “why don’t y’all just come over here… I’ll order pizza” 😅 What about you? Are you a homebody or do you prefer to go out?! Let me know!
I’m only logged in because I have to be. Your request can wait until tomorrow. And that’s on #SelfCare
So I was reviewing a vlog yesterday and noticed I was stank facing. I asked my husband and he said “yeah… you have resting angry face” 🤣🤣🤣 at least he didn’t call me a B 😅 no seriously tho, I wear all of my emotions on my face. No poker face over here! How about you? Do you wear a good poker face or are you expressive (to a fault) like me? Let me know!
Our son is now 6 years old, but on a daily basis, antoinecheek & I take trips down memory lane and reminisce on our earliest days as parents. This memory was just too precious not to share! Becoming parents only magnified the love that we share. I get a front row seat to my husband in “dad mode” on a daily basis and it’s one of the greatest joys of my life. I grew up without my biological father so seeing my husband in action is a special treat for me. Black dads are active parents. Black dads love spending quality time with their children. Black dads dry tears & cheer on every win in their children’s lives. Here’s to challenging stigmas but more importantly, just being present with each other & with our children because we love each other 🥰
New Year, Same Me 😅 Do you have a word or phrase for 2023? Mine is: FINISH STRONG ❤️ I start so many projects that eventually fizzle out. I’m going to shift my focus to finishing what I start. What’s yours?! Let me know in the comments!
Happy New Year! Career Tip Tuesdays are BACK! 🙌🏾😍 How long should it take you to find a job? The honest answer - it varies! When I was laid off in 2017, I took the first job I could get! Thankfully, I found a job in 2️⃣ weeks. I was fired 5 months later 😅 so it wasn’t an ideal fit… but it was a job! After I got fired, it took me 2️⃣ months to find my next job. 2 months is a reasonable amount of time to apply for and be offered a job that’s a lateral move or one step up in the same field. If you’re transitioning, it could take from 4️⃣ months to half a year to find a job. Please don’t get discouraged in whatever season you’re in. The right job is out there for you! Your self worth should not depend on whether or not you’re offered a job. Keep your head up! And if you need Career coaching to help get your confidence back & start your job search on the right track, I’m your girl! ❤️✨ DM me for details!
Our love is forever, but liking you?! Totally conditional! 🤦🏾♀️😂 I used to really think all of the couples on my IG feed had perfect relationships. That thought actually made me feel worse about my own relationship which is and always has been imperfect. We go through phases - sometimes, he’s my favorite person on the planet & I can’t get enough of him. Other times, he’s grating my nerves. Married folks- can you relate or is it just me?! 🙋🏾♀️ One year, I was mad at my husband on our anniversary and it was honestly hard to find nice things to say in my “obligatory” Facebook post. 🙄 I felt so fake posting it and from that point forward, I have made it a point to be more authentic in my social media presence. I think one year, I didn’t post either on my husbands birthday or anniversary because we had an argument. I don’t know if that’s more petty or authentic 😂😂 what do you think?? I have learned a few things: 1️⃣ IG is still just a highlight reel. People post what they want you to see. Never forget that! 2️⃣ There is no such thing as a perfect relationship. Some people have no problem faking happiness for a few “likes”. 3️⃣ There is no rule that you have to post about your relationship at all. Not when you’re upset, not when it’s your anniversary... not EVER. Please don’t feel bad about your relationship when you see seemingly perfect couples on Instagram. Chiiile listen- we all have our highs & lows. Your relationship is no better or worse than mine! Relationships take work & intentionality. Comparison will always be the thief of joy 🤷🏾♀️ Have you ever felt bad about your relationship because of IG? Let me know in the comments. 📸: @vanessasmithphoto
THIS IS WHAT A SCIENTIST LOOKS LIKE 🥰🥰 (last photo - geek WHERE?! 🤣😍 gotta let em know sometimes lol😅) Happy International Day of Women & Girls in Science! The purpose of this day is to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls. This cause is so dear to me & it’s part of the reason why I make it a point to mentor budding scientists, especially women of color. Do you know any dope women in science?! Tag them in the comments! #internationaldayofwomenandgirlsinscience
Am I a content creator? Am I a creative? All of my posts are pretty vulnerable, but this topic right here... I don’t know why but it makes me so emotional! I’m a scientist and some days, I wonder if I should be “creating content” at all. Maybe I need to “stay in my own lane”. I get in my own head about it often. I spend time developing concepts and turning those concepts into visuals. I draft what I feel are the perfect words for the visuals & I get excited thinking my content will land only for it to flop. And when the likes, saves, shares, and comments don’t equate to the amount of work I put into the post, I try not to become sad, but trying doesn’t always help. What does help me is understanding that my presence online aligns with my God-given purpose. Whether people “like” my posts or not, I am right where God has told me to be doing exactly what He is telling me to do. Whether that makes me a creative or not... 🤷🏾♀️ I don’t know. But what I know for sure is that I am on assignment from God & I take that assignment seriously. I have talked to enough of you about this to KNOW that I’m not alone in this. If you’ve felt similarly about working hard on content only for it to perform poorly, let me know in the comments! How do you deal with those feelings? Let’s talk about it!
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a preacher, teacher, activist, change agent, husband, and father of four. My husband and I connect deeply with him & the vision he had for this country & for his babies - he dreamt of a nation that would accept his children for who they are on the inside & not judge them based on their appearance. Similarly, we look at our precious son and long for a world where he will not grow up to be seen as “just another Black man”. As we all know, although Jim Crow laws are dead, the work that Dr. King set out to do & the dreams he had are not complete. If the violent terrorist attack at the Capitol building taught us anything, it is that these goals are still very much in progress. As we teach our children about Dr. King today, let us not shy away from this inconvenient truth. Yes, Dr. King had a dream over 50 years ago and the dream has yet to be fulfilled. There is still much work to be done. ✊🏾 #mlkday
MY BLOG IS LIVE!!! 🎉🎉🎉 My blog is finally live & I am so excited for you all to see it. I built it myself & I couldn’t be prouder of myself for setting a goal & making it a reality. ...with that said... in the interest of full transparency, I wanna say 2 things: 1️⃣ I planned to launch my blog on January 1st but I just wasn’t done. I didn’t beat myself up - I just kept working on it. Yes, set goals & yes, try your best to reach those goals, but also give yourself grace. 2️⃣ I officially finished working on it about a week and a half ago. I looked at other blogs, got intimidated, and never officially launched mine. Also, Wix be playin me & my IG feed on my blog hasn’t been showing up! 😩 I was waiting for it to come back, and finally I went in and fixed it today. For anyone else dealing with this, I had to refresh my connection. Annoying, but... it should be working now! Today, I went back to what I told y’all was my phrase for 2021: “Do it anyway”. As in - the IG feed may not work all the time and other people have prettier blogs than me, but so what?! This is my first real blog & I’m still so proud of it. So here it is! 🙌🏾 There are 3 posts on my blog already. I hope you’ll visit & read my blog posts. If there’s anything you want me to write about, let me know. PLEASE go visit my blog & let me know your thoughts! Do you have a blog? Have you been sitting on any projects for fear that they aren’t good or impactful enough? I hope I can inspire someone today to DO IT ANYWAY!
