BHM 🗣🖤 In high school I took a Black History class, because even though I studied on my own, I wanted to learn more. My class was pretty diverse in that it wasn’t just black kids in that class. Mrs Moore was an amazing educator. We laughed, I know I cried at times, but we really learned the history of black people all over and especially in America. I went to a HBCU (Historically Black College and University) because I wanted to be immersed in my culture culture. I was tired of being told I wasn’t “black enough” because I spoke proper or was “smart”. Neither of those things define your blackness by the way. It was AMAZING! I met other young people (some of whom I still talk with to this day) who are brilliant, witty and all around awesome. Raising a young black boy, I want him to always be proud of and know about his heritage, and also be accepting of people of different backgrounds and cultures. Even now I notice that he notices differences in his friends and generally treats them the way they want to be treated. (He is a toddler, so a little or a lot of grace here. 😅🤣) My prayer is that he uses his boldness for greatness and realizes that he is black and amazing.
