Hi everyone! My name is Leah and I live in Las Vegas, NV. I am a full time district attorney and a full time mom to my two beautiful and wild children Savannah and London. Parenting is a 24/7 roller coaster of ups and downs. The mommy counsel is dedicated to helping moms and parents along that ride. My goal is to provide parents with support, advice, tips and tricks to navigate parenting. I am by no means an expert at parenting. I am just a real life mom, working a real life job who hopes to make life a little easier while saving some dollars. Parenting isn’t always pretty. I’m here to be a friend, a shoulder to lean on and a helpful aid. At the mommy counsel, you’ll hear tips about everything from life with a newborn to meal prep basics. pumping schedules #1 question I hear about pumping…How long should you pump for? The general rule is to aim for 120 minutes today a day. If you are pumping 8x a day, that would make each pump session about 15 minutes. If you are pumping 10x a day, that would be about 12 minutes a session. You may have to adjust based on your circumstances but 120 minutes is the general rule when you are trying to establish and maintain your milk supply. Soo... how do you start putting yourself on a pumping schedule? The key is picking a start time for your day. That sounds crazy because of all the random sleep patterns and craziness that your newborn will bring. However, picking a start time for your day helps you establish your pumping schedule. For example, if you choose to start your day at 6 am, everything flows from 6 am. So at 8 times a day, you would pump at 6 am, 9 am, 12 pm, 4 pm, 7 pm, 10 pm, 1 am, and 4 am. Yes I understand that is 2 middle of the night pumps. But in the the first 3 months, it is likely that your baby would be nursing 2-3 times at night. So if baby would be normally nursing, mama will be pumping. Now let’s be real, this is exhausting and very difficult to maintain. Sleep is also a priority because lack of sleep definitely negatively affects milk supply. So, if you need to get some zzz, spread out the night ones. So instead 10 pm, pump at 11 pm, then 3 am, then start over at 6. That gives you a good 4 hour sleep block. Just make sure you make up for those lost minutes during your other 7 pumps (so 17 minute pump sessions). Was this helpful? breastfeeding essentials For those who breastfeed- what is the number 1 item that helped you during your breastfeeding journey? I will tell you when I decided I wanted to breastfeed my kids, I really had no idea what I was getting into. I took a breastfeeding class before birth but I still wasn’t prepared for not only the physical demands but the mental demands of breastfeeding. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know my breastfeeding journey with Savannah became a pumping/formula journey and my journey with London was a combination of nursing and pumping. If you are thinking of breastfeeding, here are some key items that will help you on your journey however it ends up: 🤱🏽 Nursing Pillow or BOBBY to help keep you and baby in an effective and comfortable position 🤱🏽 Haaka or other silicone pump- attach it to the non nursing boob as you nurse to catch any leaks- then freeze that extra milk 🤱🏽 Nursing Bra- to unhook quickly and throw that baby on the boob Breastfeeding mamas- what did I miss?? Let me know in the comments and save/share with a soon to be mama interested in breastfeeding

our reading workbook How did you teach your kids to read?!?! 📓📓If you’ve been following the mommy counsel for awhile, you know we’ve been on a journey to get little Savannah reading. She does really great with her sight words and sound words but of course the reading process is a journey. I wanted to share 1 thing I created for her last year that we have built on throughout the year so o can keep track of what we have already learned and continuously build on it. TIP: 📓📚 instead of buying all those expensive books- create your own reading workbook. In the front of our book, we have the sight words we’ve learned. Following that is the sound word families we are working on. Then I take the sound words and sight words and make my own sentences from combining those two groups so she can practice reading. Every week we add 2 new sight words and 1 new word family group to our reading book + a couple new sentences using the new information. Saves money and helps me keep track of what we’ve been doing. Drop a book emoji and share with a friend if you found this helpful 👇🏽
